I've used FB on my tires and it worked very well, nice even color. So I tried some on plastic trim. Specifically the piece that runs under the wiper blades across the vehicle. It has a slightly pebbled texture, close to smooth. Anyhow I'm getting a good color, but also light streaks. You don't notice them till you get within a couple of feet. I've tried to go over the coating with a real light touch so there are no ridges or gaps. Coating looks very smooth and consistent, but then seems to dry with small but noticeable streaks.

Any ideas?

I was satisfied with it on tires. Gave a nice rich black, not real glossy, and no streaking. The sponge applicator is a tad fragile so don't press too hard.

A follow-up to my post. I decided to use a small wad of cloth as the applicator (on the trim piece) rather than the sponge. Saw the same small streaks developing, so I decided to use a swirl motion rather than back-forth. No real difference, still seem to be getting light streaks.

It makes me think that some is soaking in and some not. But not in the same places if I recoating. I did shake the bottle before use to make sure it is blended - not sure if needed but just thinking. It's like when paint dries, some dries quicker than other areas, but the paint finish is consistent. Here it is not, I get the subtle lines/streaks/marks.

The streaks are a ? Maybe it does not like smooth plastic? I can tell you with all the NEW trim products out you have choices. MOTHERS TRIM CLEANER would be a good start to prep the trim. I use wolfgang exterior trim sealant and have had stellar results. NO DRAMA, NO STREAKING. And lasts months not weeks. Blackfire has a new trim sealant also thats getting good reviews.

pro 4x, yes there are a number of products, however I happen to have FB. This was my first try on trim.

conman1395, yes the piece was cleaned. I used Dawn soap, then I went over it with Groit's "Dried-On Wax Remover".

Honestly, I don't have any experience with the Griot's Wax Remover, but I'd use an APC or Mother's Heavy Duty Trim Cleaner. I use the latter before I use coatings on trim.

Just a follow up on this.

I applied FB several times over the course of the day and it seemed the streaking was must less. (Remember I said you had to be within a couple of feet to see it.) The next day I was at Home Depot, and spotted a bottle of Mothers "Back-to-Black". The directions said if there was streaking after applying it to rub with a microfiber towel.

Penetration, or soaking in, is a good way to describe how the surface looked when I applied FB, so I thought this might be it. No, rubbing when dry did not do anything to the FB finish - worth a shot though. Ok, I did buy the Mothers, and applied it when I got home. Maybe because there were several coats of material, it did not seem to soak in. I kept wiping any streaks during the first few minutes after application.

My final result is a deep, rich black, no streaks. I've never thought of plastic as being too porous, but maybe this piece was (off a 2003 van). I'm not sure why I have a great finish, but figure it was due to multiple applications, rather than the final product. Or maybe Mothers BtoB did it. I will have to try Mothers on another trim piece w/o FB. Now I wonder how long it will last. By the way, it was a white cream, not black like FB.

Anyhow, that's my story and I'm sticking to it!
