I like Meguiars #57 for rubber, especially when cleaning is needed to remove bakes on pollen and residue.
But it has 1-5 or some percentage TSP. TSP is an alkaline cleaner/degreaser that is known to remove gloss, at least on gloss and/or lead household paints.
One should always be careful, but the potential always exists, especially on more complex seals and rubber parts, like on a convertible, to get it on the paint.
Automotive paint is obviously not gloss household paint. But TSP could have some effect. Anyone have any firsthand experience?
it may be a moot point in the percentages used. Since it's from the "marine" line, it's not clear if marine paints and coatings are, again, different.
And yes, I get that stuff should be masked off, wiped off, etc. care should be taken. But is there reason for concern?
thanks!
