I had some spare time today, so I thought I would do a write up on a recent job I had.

2010 F150 Platinum edition in beautiful Tuxedo Black.

Here it is when it was dropped off at my place and I had just finished washing the wheels.

Customer builds cabinets and this is his work truck so it gets beat on in terms of scratches and dings. He also just usually wand washes it at a coin-op, drives home, and then dries it there - resulting in lots of swirls from relatively dry towels and little to no lubrication.

Interior before:

Interior process

  • Leather was cleaned with a combo of steam and Pinnacle leather cleaner.
  • Plastics were cleaned with CG All Clean+
  • Carpets were just vacuumed and were not in need of shampoo.
  • Glass was cleaned with Stoners
  • Dash was cleaned with Sonax matte dash cleaner

Leather wasn't in too bad of condition, but still needed some love.

Center console. Top before, bottom after.

Driver's seat. Left bolster before, right bolster after.

Floor mat has prints on it already because the customer hopped in before I took pictures when he was giving it the final look-over.

Wheels weren't too bad. The front ones had iron build-up, back ones did not.

Wheels process
  • Test spritz with Sonax Full Effect to see if there was a reaction.
  • Front wheels were cleaned with Sonax, back ones were cleaned with CG Diablo.
  • They were agitated with various brushes.
  • Wheel wells were cleaned with CG All Clean+
  • Tires were dressed with CG tire and trim gel, but buffed off with a microfiber to reduce any sling.

Engine process
  • Electronics were wrapped up and sealed off.
  • It was given a light spray down and then soaked with CG Signature series engine degreaser.
  • It was agitated with various brushes and rinsed off, following a drying with a leaf blower.
  • Sensitive areas were cleaned with a steam cleaner.
  • Dressed with CG tire and trim gel which was then buffed off.

Like I mentioned earlier, the exterior was a little rough, and being black, it showed everything.

Exterior process
  • Washed with the two bucket method using CG citrus wash and gloss.
  • Clayed with fine grade Nanoskin and ONR diluted to lube ratio.
  • Paint was polished with a Rupes15 and Meguiars microfiber cutting pad. Used mostly D300 with a dot of M205. It finished out quite nicely!
  • It was given a coating of JetSeal, waited an hour, and then finished it off with Son1cWax Protowax 93.

Did all the polishing at the client's house just in case he received an emergency phone call he was waiting on.

It was a big project, but was enjoyable. Total time for completion: 15 hours.

Seems to be that I am doing a lot of trucks this Summer. It would sure be nice to get some cars, but business is still business!
Thanks for looking!

smart way of advertising your business while doing what you do best. you should attach a card holder (to your sign) so someone can feel free to take one (somthing like the one below) if they don't feel like they want to bother you while you work. btw, nice elantra...

Elantra is the client's wife's.
Business card holder is a great idea! I had someone stop to talk the other day just after I foamed a car down. I felt bad trying to talk to them while continuing the wash process, but I didn't want to risk anything drying and spotting. Your suggestion might help that! Thanks

Nice job on the truck. I like the advertisement and the way "Take One" stands out. It drives you to want to take one.

That F1 looks like it was born again! Great work! Funny that it belongs to a cabinet maker. I did a black 2011 F1 platinum a few months back that belongs to a carpenter! Same exact truck but an ecoboost.

I really liked the colour of the seats too. Can't say they were super comfortable though. They felt extremely firm
