Type Paint For Chip Repair

Was wondering if there is any reason that one could not use single stage paint on a base/clear paint job that has a few chips in it. I am referring to single stage paint that is same paint code/color as the base clear.
If fact would it not be easier to not have to apply two separate products?

For small chips, single stage touch-up is absolutely an acceptable method.
