About 40 minutes ago. I pulled up behind an eldery driven El Camino at a stop sign. I was waiting for him to go and for some reason he put his car in reverse and hit my front bumper.

Paint chipped off bumper and fractured the paint/bumper as I now have cracks.

Ugh, Im mad, but at the same time not really.

I called my insurance and he recommended I call his if I do not want to pay a deductable - which I dont. I did nothing wrong. He backed into me in REVERSE at a STOP SIGN. So the claim has been made on his insurance.

So I guess I now wait? I've never made a claim before.

Any recommenedations you guys? This bumper needs to be repainted, if not replaced.

I'll post pictures after I eat lunch.

Bumper will need a repaint - and yes go through his insurance company if at all possible. Repair cost for something like that should be a couple of hundred. I am guessing $500ish.

Thing is, my bumper was a repaint already when I bought the car. And there are dents in the plastic(Im guessing from repair?)

So I really want a new bumper + paint. A repaint is not acceptable to me.

Get hi. To sign a notarized statement or get a witness. One this nice elderly man speaks to someone he may change his story!

UUUGGGGHHHHH NNNOOOOOOO!!!!!! Man I'm so sorry to hear about this!!! This totally sucks. I'm pretty sure it will have to be repainted. I remember back when I had my POS Ford Probe, I rear ended someone very lightly. At the time, I didn't have any damage to my car nor the other person's car. A few months later I noticed fine hairline scratches that gave it a spider web appearance from where I had rear ended that person. File a claim with the guys insurance and have them repaint the cover. I'm pretty sure the integrity of the bumper isn't compromised, so it will just need to be sanded down and repainted. Good luck man...sorry again to hear this.

Then it looks like you should pay for the bumper. Not the man who backed into you (unless there is more damage I don't see). He obviously should be on the hook for the repaint.

insurers are responsible to restore to the condition prior to the incident. prepare for an inspection by the insurance company and some negotiating. start by getting 3 quotes from your repair shops

Unfortunetly, there were no cars nearby or people for witness. I should have got a police report, but I didnt..

He straight up said he was sorry and that it was his fault when we got out of our cars.

Should I get some quotes before his insurance inspects my car?

Hey timaishu : did you get his plate number ! hopefully you have it , took a pic of his damages ! his phone number , driver s licence number too , ! if not , you can t do much I guess .

A police report would be a good idea. Insurance companies like ''proof'' before paying.

Note to anyone who gets into an accident: First check for everyone's well-being. Second, very quickly take pics and/or video of damage on both vehicles (include license plates), Third, call local law enforcement, Fourth, ask for other driver's lic., insurance and registration. If they don't want to supply this info wait for police and get it then. Trust no one, you might get ripped-off.

I've got news for you.
In most larger Metro areas, the law will not respond to these type traffic accidents.
If they do show up, many times the officer will not file a report and encourage both parties to exchange all info.
Times sure have changed.

I had some kid apologize to me when he hit me in a parking lot too. He admitted it was his fault...then turn around and lied to an insurance adjuster and obviously paid someone to be a witness. Good luck. Hope yours turns out better.

I called the local PD an hour or so ago to inquire about filing a report after the fact. The woman I talked to said that they wouldn't respond even if I had called at the time of the accident. So a police report is out of the question anyways..

I just hope they get it right and dont try to pull any 50:50 bs. Its not like he rolled into be like if it was a manual on a hill, he put his damn car in reverse.

I am going to push for a full bumper replacement. If they won't pay for it then I will. I just cant accept an already damaged bumper getting repainted. The creases will still be there. Not acceptable for me.

Anyone know of GOOD San Diego body shops? I won't settle for crap. Im thinking of getting a quote at Gene Townsend. My mom has gone there a few times and I am pleased with their color matching on her car.

If he's honest about it you won't have any problems...of course if he says he was stopped and you ran into him...could be problems. I mean put yourself in an adjusters place...which is more likely??
