Ultimate Compound Every Year?

Is it safe on my paint to use a Meguiars Ultimate Compound once a year? Or will this eventually cut away too much clear?

I wouldn't want to use it every year. Eventually, it will remove the clear coat.

There is no way to tell if the clear coat will be gone after two compounds or several.

Paint thickness gauges can help but only tell the thickness of primer, paint and clear coat. A good one is over $500.00

Its impossible to give you an accurate answer. you would need a paint gauge to really tell.

the bigger question is why do you need to compound your car every year? what is causing so many swirls? or does your paint get oxidation on it? if its only oxidation you can use a cleaner wax... personally I don;t ever use them. also if you think your paint is thin you can use a filler, again i never use them.

I would feel ok by compounding a car every year. always try polish first, least aggressive to more aggressive.

Try something thats not as strong first if you are tackling minor swirls. UC is good, don't get me wrong, but all ways try the least aggressive method first, quoting Mike Phillips on this one, if its not crazily swirled or oxidized.

why to compound every year? when you can remove minor swirls by a polish or somethin like swirlX etc. eventually, what'll be left 'd b bare paint..!!

Like everyone else said use something less aggressive. But I've seen guys on here that polish their car 1-3 times a year for 5+ years and no problems. Now use that with caution but I don't think you should have a problem. After the initial compound and polish of my car, I polish it with a medium - light polish about once a year to remove some minor swirling from washing and DD wear and tear.

Diagnosis of your "paint's condition", during what seems to be: 'your-yearly-appearance-schedule'...Is one of the keys to products' selections, and their 'abrasiveness'.

That...and...What are: Your expectations that you feel must be met.
