First off, I have a f150 fX4. Several weeks ago I took a little excursion off road....needless to say the truck got mud everywhere.

Now I have the truck all cleaned and detailed but I can see GA red clay stains on the inside walls of the tires, and looking under the truck there is mud all over the skid plates and all.

Is there a product and method to cleaning the undercarriage that any of you know about?

I really don't want to climb under the truck in my swim trunks with a brush and hose if there is a easier way.

Some car washes have an undercarrage option, but the only ones I've ever seen are not touchless. Unless you get down there or put it on a lift I don't see any other option really.

Put a garden sprinkler under the truck. Move it section by section every 15-20 min. But in all honesty the only true way you are going to get the red clay off is with a brush, soap, water, and APC. Get yourself a full rain suit and a mechanics creeper, slide under the truck and go to town. Be prepared to get soaked and filthy. Or use a 2 or 4 post lift like the other person said.

How about a pressure washer with an undercarriage lance?

I wish I had a PW. May be able to borrow one or rent one at Home Depot.

I was hoping there was a product that was spray on, rinse off.

I'll prolly remove the wheels to get the tires clean.

I have one of those touch less washes near me that do the under spray but I don't think it will work unless I go through many times and that will cost too much @$10 each, plus I think you have to get one of the higher level washes that cost more to get that under wash. Not to mention it will dump all that cheap wax on it with the wash.

It's a truck. It's 4wd. It's suppose to be dirty.

Hose off the big chunks and call it good.

I know it's a truck but it's like a woman, sometimes you want her to be dirty but most of the time you want her to be a classy lady! ;)

Crawl under and get to scrubbing . Being a detailer and owner of a 4x4 is curse. It's the nature of the beast

Put a garden sprinkler under the truck.

That works is you do it the same day or at least by the next day...

How to clean mud off the underneath of your 4x4 the lazy man's way

I cleaned the underneath of mine the old fashioned way, I crawled under it on my back, sometimes my butt and took various brushes with some various cleaners and scrub and rinsed, scrubbed and rinsed.

She came out pretty clean.

We are talking about the truck right?

karcher makes an undercarriage attachment for their pressure washers

Well, thanks for the help fellas. Looks like I'll be getting dirty.

I did the crawl under the truck and when it was all clean I applied Sonus Motor and Trim coat. It is a lot easier to clean and keep that way now.

Yes.

Sad to say, here a few months ago I didn't have time to clean the frame and wax the back of the cab when I had the bed off.

By the time I replaced the fuel lines, (they were leaking), it was 4:00 O'clock on a Saturday and all my co-workers would be leaving for home. I needed their help to lift the truck bed back on so I didn't get to detail what was exposed that day.

I posted this to 73-87chevytrucks.com, another forum I hang out on... did this back in September of 2013

Mike Phillips said:
Removed bed, removed gas tank, installed Super Hoops bracket for Super Hoop because gas tank was in the way. Found the fuel lines were completely corroded and cracked and replaced these. Put everything back together and took my truck to the local car show that night. Started at 9:00am, finished at 5:00p. Got a little sunburned...

My buddy Dave came by with Behemoth to see if I needed any help...

These fuel lines look original by the degree of breakdown in the rubber...

Sad to say, I didn't have time to clean up and detail anything, tank, frame, front of bed, back of cab.

I have co-workers working till 4:00pm and I had to hustle to be ready to take advantage of these guys to help me lift and replace the bed back onto the frame. Had I done other things I would have been in a jam.

Now that I've done this and all the bolt threads are cleaned and oiled, it will be a lot easier to remove in the future for any future projects.

As Mike states use safety glasses as a minimum, I personally have goggles as no dirt, sand, metal particles can get around the goggles plastered against your skin. With glasses there is the chance of objects finding their way around the openings. I have been to the eye doctors twice in my life to have metal particles removed. I finally learned and use goggles when ever I get into those situations.
