Anyone here use a heat gun when removing rubber marks from paint? (rubber marks like from tires when tracking a car, burnouts, etc).

Does it work? If so, what's your technique and about how hot do you get the paint (80 degrees F, 90, 120...?).

Bonus questions:
  • Any other techniques for removing the rubber that people think are better/safer ?
  • Anyone know the science behind using a heat gun to remove the rubber marks?

I’ve never used it, but there’s this.

Mothers R3 Racing Rubber Remover, rubber scuff remover, boot scuff eraser

Yeah you want to remove it with a chemical, not heat…try an acetone or alcohol wipe, don’t dwell…..

and next time use trak wrap behind the wheels -off Amazon…..

That has solvents in it though (albeit likely very diluted).

I'm not against solvents, but maybe heat is a better option. Not sure.

Also, that R3 seems to have great reviews.

I have heard good things about trak wrap.

I’ve used that R3 on my track car many times to remove a lot of race rubber. I think it works as advertised, and would recommend.
