Recently painted some black plastic mouldings. When stripping down to repaint, I got to the point where I was working on the original bare plastic. So if I wet sanded with 2000-3000 grit, can I polish with PlastX as the "compound"? I know that plastic heats up much faster than metal, but the colour is all the way through, so there nothing to burn through per say. I just got the Rupes Bigfoot Nano Short Neck and it is perfect for these small partsbut, I am afraid of the power of the Nano, so any advice is welcome.

So looks like I'll have to test this myself as no one has polished using Plast-X that wants to share. I've done lots of plastic : headlights, fog lights, bumper covers, interior plastic trim and single stage panels. I have always used compounds and polishes used on paints. I have used PlastX by hand on new components. Just was looking for advise I could use when I test with the Rupes Nano Shortneck.

One thing you touch on but may not realise the risk of.. the rate of transition of the plastic from solid to a melted bloom is super fast..

So IF (and i'm sure you won't) one allows the polisher to remain static or run dry or both the oppurtunity to realise and prevent damage is small..

I realised this a while back using a dremmel to take the shoulder off a decent stone chip on a plastic bumper.. it got hot super quick and the plastic and adjacement paint bubbled in the blink of an eye.. OK good learning oppurtunity.. ... shame about the chip.. :)

The Steel turns at 20,000 Rpm, so yes it burns almost on contact. I'm looking for advice with Nano on speed 1 and rotary tool with PlastX.

So tried on set of headlights ( they are clear obviously).

Trizact 3000 damp sanded and then Plast-X with orange thin pro pad.

Used 3" polisher speed 5.

Tried on black mirrors and seemed ok-not great.

Sealed with Optimum Permanent Lens Protect.

On the mirror went wth trim treatment.

Worked out.
