I've posted here many times before on the difficulty of detailing in a narrow single car garage which must also serve as the space where you store all your detailing products and tools. I also do all my own mechanical work, as the only time my cars see a paid shop is for yearly state inspections.

One issue I always have had is I never had the space for a simple workbench or table just to sit parts or work on. Inevitably I end up doing stuff like mixing waterless washes / various detailing chemicals, placing working tools, or just folding microfibers on my hands and knees on the floor. As, alI my shelf space is storing something.

So, I knew I needed at least a small workbench that in some way takes up no floor space and is easily removable to store it 100% out of the way when not in use. I shopped around online, but could find nothing that would fit the bill. I don't even have the wall space for something that would fold up and down with hinges, not to mention the floor space for table legs.

So, I figured I would again be creative and tried to invent something. My criteria:

1. Has to be sturdy enough to hold at least 50 lbs.

2. Has to be stable - but can rely on table legs on floor space to study it or hold the weight.

3. Has to be big enough to be useful and place a bunch of tools (or gallon bottles) on and not worrying about them falling on the floor.

4. Has to have the ability to be 100% out of the way when not in use and not take up any of my usable space while I'm not using the work bench.

So, I've thought about this for several months. I came up with all kinds of crazy foldable and slideable table top ideas, when I came up with this relatively simple solution based on shelving I already have.

Check it out:

Shelf it based on the shelf racks from Home Depot:

They are easily curable to whatever size you need and bolt right on my current shelving system. When not using the table, they are not in your way.

This is how the table top clicks into the shelf holder:

When not in use, shelf comes off easy and can be stored out of the way

Now I can fold and put away a clean load of microfibers and not have to work on the floor:

Good Job on the creativity.

I think one day you will run out of room even with the creativity of using every square inch of the garage. Might have to look into a separate garage or another house.
