Vacuuming polishing pads?

Hi everyone,

I was just wondering if anyone vacuums their foam pads instead of cleaning on the fly with a towel. I was thinking it could lift spent product or at very least help keep the pad clean for an extra panel?

Just thinking out loud, I plan on trying it this weekend unless someone else has done the experiment already.

I guess it depends how dry the pad is. I guess it's not that much different than brushing the dry polish off the surface, I'm just not sure what you are gaining it doing it this way vs. brushing or toweling.

So not so much to replace the brush, but to remove excess product from the pad after a few panels. Maybe it would help keep the pads from over saturation? Not sure if it would be as good as just a terry towel.

Just buy more pads easy as that. When I use to polish with foam pads I would use 1 pad per panel OCD.

I couldn't agree more! I mean maybe get two front fenders with a pad (if they are small), but when compounding I've never done an entire hood with 105 on a single pad.

Pads are cheap and the chance of picking up a piece of debris from points unknown and screwing up half a car just isn't worth it. Use 'um, toss 'um in cleaner and move on.

Lots easier to wash half a dozen (or more) at once than stop and clean, have a beer and wait for pass to dry. ;). OTOH, good excuse for a beer! :)

I guess you could take the small attachment used on the vacuum that is used to go between the seats, take a small brush that is used to clean the pads and cut the handle off the brush and glue it to the side if the vacuum attachment. This way you can brush it and vacuum at the same time. Heck...why not put compressed air on the other side of the attachment and you can brush, suck and blow.

I will stock up on pads, and switch pads more often. Sounds like I'm using too much product and not swapping pads enough. Thank for the input guys.

Try hitting them with a metro blaster. Easy and fast. Just point in non invasive direction.

I like using the tornador with pad cleaner, then blow it dry. It works wonderfully, without soaking the pad.

That can be an awful lot of pads but I think you're right. Great, now I guess I gotta buy more pads.

There are cleaning methods that don't require water and drying, as mentioned brushing, blowing, toweling.
