This beauty was one of the scratchiest cars I've done! And, the clear coat was hard as heck. Compounding didn't seem to work the scratches out, so I used 3M Trizact 3000 pads on the air orbital. Whoa....I ended up using 4 pads on this car (to the tune of $32 in Trizact pads).

Here's a sampling of the finish I started with:

Wetsanding and partial compounding

And...just when you think you are done, an alcohol wipedown reveals some leftover sanding haze...grrrrrrrrrrrrr.

So, a couple of "do-over's" later, I finished the sides

After compounding with wool and foam, I used Menzerna 106FA as a polish

I power washed between each step: First to remove any compound and polish dusting and Second to check for any wetsanding haze I missed. I did find a few places and re-compounded those areas

Finally, I applied a heavy coat of Meguiar's #26 and left it on the car overnight. Today, I powerwashed the car with the wax still on the surface and used some new Cobra plush towels to dry/remove the wax.

The car is now ready for a new owner!

Now, I've only got 3 more Black Bimmers to start on.....

Which compound are you using? Or should I say, tried to use.

I started with 3M Extra Cut (proverbial sand in a bottle IMO).

When I switched to wetsanding, I actually had better results with System One X3. For some reason, that product does fantastic removing wet sand haze.

Just wondering if you have tried Meguairs M105 or M95. I've ordered Optimum Polish, so I'll see how that goes as well.

Toto is the one man who can make that silk purse out of a cows ear time and time again. A beautiful job, thanks for sharing the pictures with us.

awesome job! I've never had to do any compounding/wetsanding on a car before I'd be crapping my pants thinking I messed up the paint lol

Wow tato nice save man! You know its bad when the 3m extra cut wont touch it.

Amazing work! :righton:

I noticed you said you rinsed the car off with the #26 still on that car, may I ask why you did this, and how well did the wax came off vs. removing it dry? I've just never heard of someone doing that before.

Thanks,
Rasky

Amazing work like always!!i wish i could watch/learn from you.

Rasky: apparently, that method of wax removal has been around for many years and used by some dealers. The dealer decided to bring it back and I have to say, it is superb.

The final power wash (with wax applied prior) removes any wax and/or polish in body seams and general polish dust. After washing, I pull the car in the shop and use fresh microfiber towels to dry and remove the wax. Think of the process as spraying some quick detailer on a towel prior to wax removal. The water acts as a lube so you don't introduce any light scratching from the towel.

HAPPY & SAFE THANKSGIVING TO ALL!
