So I found an old VHS from 1988 that I wanted to watch on my TV. Its one of those VHS/TV combos.

Anyways, it started playing okay, I wanted to rewind a few seconds and something went FUBAR.

Its started making a whirling type sound and then my TV turned off. I turned it back on, tried to eject and it wont eject, rewind, fastforward or play. The TV now turns itself off after being on for maybe 5 seconds, and while its on I can here noise coming from the tape player.

Any ideas guys? Im sure I could just say #### it and rip the tape out but I dont wanna #### up my TV.

The heads are most likely done and the mechanism that engages the tape

Unplug the unit and take the casing off. After the casing is off plug it back in and hit eject. You will be able to tell where its getting hung up. Get a small flat head screwdriver and pry it out while hitting eject

Good luck man :dblthumb2:

Edit~Just saw where it is a tv/vcr combo...doesn't matter though. Proceed as I directed above

I remember coaxing a tape or two out with a super thin butter knife. Make sure the heads arent engaged and tape spooling thru them. If in the clear try to level the tape and slide out.

reminds me of my old 8 track tapes and cassettes. lol!

I tried pulling it out with pliers, screw drivers etc and it didnt work.

So I tried unplugging it for 24 hours and whata-ya-know. It popped out. Wasnt even jammed. Tape was fine. I dont know what the heck that was all about.
