Meguiar's M105, M101 and M100 Compounds Round Table Discussion at Autogeek

Recently I had the opportunity to host a round table discussion here at Autogeek’s Show Car Garage with experts from Meguiar’s including,

Jason Rose – Technical Service Manager for Meguiar’s Professional Line.

Mike Pennington – Global Director of Training for Meguiar’s.

Steve Coronado – Marketing Product Manager for Meguiar’s Professional Line.

In this round table discussion the four of us go over the benefits, features and intended use for each of these incredibly popular cutting compounds in Meguiar's Professional Line. This includes,

M105 Ultra Cut Compound - M101 Foam Cut Compound - M100 Pro Speed Compound
Meguiars_SMAT_Compounds.jpg

The goal of this round table discussion is to hopefully remove some of the confusion surrounding the intended markets and uses for these compounds and to help you choose the right compound for your specific detailing projects.

When Meguiar’s introduced M105 it quickly set a new standard for both cut and finish quality for an aggressive compound. M105 is what is called a SMAT product, that is it uses Super Microscopic Abrasive Technology instead of old fashioned coarse “rocks in a bottle” abrasive technology or diminishing abrasive technology, (DAT).

Following the success of M105, Meguiar’s introduced M101 Foam Cut Compound in Europe where it quickly became the new hot product being talked about throughout all the popular Internet detailing discussion forums.

M101 was not originally sold in the U.S. market but due to super high customer demand Meguiar’s was prompted to introduce the popular M101 to the U. S. market.

Next Meguiar’s introduced M100 Pro Speed Compound, which like the M105 and the M101 quickly gained popularity in the refinishing industry, detailing industry and even the do-it-yourself market.

Jason, Mike, Steve and myself discuss all the differences and similarities between these three compounds as well as describe the variety of ways each compound was intended to be used along with successful non-intended ways these products are being used throughout the entire spectrum of the refinishing and reconditioning industries as well as the car hobby in general.

A lively and informative discussion that will clear up any confusing you might have as well as help you decide with compound will be the best choice for your specific paint correction and detailing needs.

Yancy Martinez, the Creative Director for Autogeek really does a spectacular job of directing and editing this video making it not only informative but simply put, fun to watch.

So grab a bowel of popcorn and your favorite cold beverage and get ready to learn more about Meguiar’s premium, top shelf compounds.

I havent had a chance to see the video yet but this is incredible that this was put together to inform the masses.

Over 80 years of experience in one room, was cool to shoot! Hope that you all enjoy it.

AWESOME video, thanks! Seems like Megs is not really formally embracing m101 in the DA market and are shying away from recommending it officially which I found curious.

The m100 discussion was a little awkward at first, seemed to imply it was a product that valued price over performance.

This was an excellent in depth overview of these compounds. Its nice to hear what the original intent of these were for and how many of us go out and experiment with different applications of these compounds and find how else they work.

Mike thanks for getting this group together and doing this video very very informative!

Thats one table full of detailing knowledge!

@Mike what does Meguiar's Ultimate Compound resemble?

Great video guys! As you said, there was a lot of confusion about these 3 products but things are now clearer. :dblthumb2:

The only question I have is: At what time does heat comes dangerous so that the polishing cycle becomes "destructive" as Mike said?:buffing:

Hi Sergio,

Great question and really glad to see you join our forum.

In the new edition of my how-to book I have a section on destructive paint polishing in the chapter on how to use a rotary buffer. The section starts on page 124 and ends on page 125.

Temperatures to avoid were from 160 degrees and higher. Of course buffing as cool as you can is better for the paint so aim for temps of 140 or lower. Of course I also share a lot more info in this section like two ways to gauge surface temperatures.

Autogeek is sending you a package for your upcoming first detailing class in Mexico and in that package I've included a signed copy of my second edition book for you personally. As soon as you get it, read it as I think it will help you with your detailing class.

Great video explaining the uses of the compounds. Definitely hit the nail on the head. Very informative.

That was great. Thanks for putting that together for us you guys! :dblthumb2:

Can we get a similar round table for chemical guys products?

Just sayin....awesome job, and I think more of these should be done. How about the AG staff asking us what other round tables would we like to see?

Can we get a similar round table for chemical guys products?

That's up to Chemical Guys. All they have to do is contact us, work out the details and a schedule and we move forward. I've spoken with Greg Masterson numerous times and invited him and Chemical Guys to Autogeek.

I think this format is another "first" in our industry. Seems we do a lot of "firsts" in the industry and I have to say, it's a lot of fun and very rewarding. The guys from Meguiar's, Jason, Mike and Steve were very professional from the planning stage all the way through the execution stage and that made making this video easy and fun. Of course, Yancy is a big help too...

Sounds like a stellar idea...

Absolutely a great video.

Informative, enjoyable, entertaining (has a good beat to dance to...my apologies to #### Clark, LOL).

Yancy, your production talents continue to amaze me!

I was happy to see that you were able to post this over at MOL.

Thanks for the compliment! :dblthumb2:

I'd love to see a round table discussion of all the different PBMG house brands and how they compare, contrast, and overlap. Topics could range from the different polishes, sealants, waxes, heck even down to how the different pad cleaners compare. I'd even appreciate a simple discussion of how Blackfire Midnight Sun Instant Detailer compares to Blackfire Wet Diamond Polymer Spray, and when the use of each product is appropriate. Can one be used over the other? Should one not be used in certain circumstances? What's the definition of "heavily soiled"? A further topic could cover rinseless washes, waterless washes, and spray detailers and when each is appropriate.

^^^ this. Heck, a similar discussion with Optimum, or CarPro, Gtechniq, etc...

PBMA could do Blackfire, WG, Pinnacle, DP.... possibilities are endless. Good job.

Great job Mike, Meguiars, and Yancy. A very informative video about M100, M101, and M105. This is a great reference for detailers with questions on the three products.
