This is about the only place i trust to ask this as we all have an eagle eye when it comes to our paint. I am thinking of putting some silver metallic vinyl bumper to bumper stripes on my black 2013 mustang. Now, what i am nervous about is when one day i decide to remove these will the paint underneath the vinyl be darker than the rest of the car? And can this be polished out? I wash my car once a week and keep it waxed. All correction has been done. The car is black. It also doesn't hardly ever sit outside other than the 4 hours im at school. its in a garage at night and when im not using it it is also in the garage. Thanks guys. My main concern is can that be polished out if that happens?

If you take care of the car you shouldn't have any problems. I have my roof and hood rapped for over 4 years now I just took off the roof to have it redone and the paint looks the same mind you I have a white car but I have OCD and its well taking care of.

Have you ever changed the hood? Since that would be side by side unmasked paint vs masked

Yes I changed the hood last year after my wife took a chunk of vinyl off. It looked the same as both sides and if you seal the paint you should be fine.

ok great. You dont mean seal it underneath the vinyl, right? I would think that would prevent proper adhesion.

Depending on how long the stripes are on there, you might see a difference in the color when they come off.

A while back I pulled a bumper sticker off a grey car and there was a slight color difference between the two areas. The paint had aged and lightened up, but the area under the decal looked fresh and new. The sticker hand been on there for seven or eight years.

Could that be polished out? Well i dont guess you could polish the paint that was under the decal, but what about the paint around the decal to match?

I don't think so. The paint will naturally lighten from the sun over time. Polishing only hits the clear coat, not the paint under it.

It's a similar problem to when you take an older car to a body shop to be repainted. They just can't mix up the original color because it won't match.

I think the big thing, would be how long they were left on.

If you have good quality materials installed onto your car, I believe, there's in no way you have to worry. I even have tried this once before and everything was in smooth sailing. :xyxthumbs:

Currently, I have a vinyl 3m sticker on my car for over a year and it is very durable. It was very easy to take off and it didn't leave any residue. Im the MAN

Here is a picture of my car.

Thats a beautiful Candy White VW you have there :xyxthumbs:. I am a dubber myself, a CSG MK6 2 door 6MT and my wife has a Candy White MK6 DSG 4 door. I was thinking about doing something similar to her car to not only protect it, but to make it look better.

From one Mustang guy to another....I would also inquire about the stripes with American Muscle. They are a Mustang Specialty parts provider (located in Florida) and the guys there can answer the questions. I am sure you have heard of them. I buy most of my Mustang Mods from them.

FYI

Isn't American Muscle located in Pennsylvania? I know they were as of last year at least.
