In the process of detailing a 99 red beetle. Must have spent almost 4 hrs on the inside so far and you can still see some dirt, it just keeps reappearing. I'm using files and a brush and a shop vac to suck it. Also have e little green machine pro. I used to work at a vw dealer and this reminds me how much I hated coeaning the carpets.

lol, just did a Jetta wagon the other day and I feel your pain.
Black carpet too!!!

Getting to the back carpet is the worst. When I did my wife's beetle I felt like a contortionist thanks to all the spills she had that rolled back there. That carpet held everything too. I told her I was gonna wrap her interior like an elderly persons home with plastic.

I just did a 2001 Jetta with black on black interior. Cloth seats. One of the dirtiest cars I've ever dealt with.

I know exactly what you guys are talking about when you say the carpet is horrendous to get clean. I used a stuff bristle brush and my shop vac. I'd brush all directions, vacuum, spray with OPC, repeat. After about 4-5 re-applications on each floor, I just called it quits because it's an endless battle.

The worst part about this job? It had SAND in it.

Actually though, despite this older VW being so terrible, my 2013 Jetta's carpet is significantly better.

As for the carpets best way to get crap out is a butter knife with a serrated edge and go over the carpet works great been doing for years. I've half GTI's for 30 years and the VW carpet is the worst to clean.

Thanks guys. This was black leather with black carpets. Got it about 85% clean. Spent about 4 hours just on interior. Ugh!

When I worked at a vw dealer we used to use carpet paint and pretty much spray paint over th dirt. Lol

When I did a friend's 96 Jetta Diesel I finally gave up and just pulled the carpets out of the car. The floor pan was completely full of fine dirt that would just go back through the carpet. So alll that was vacuumed out and then I washed the carpets with a RugDoctor and didn't bother to extract. I just pressure rinsed the carpet then extracted all the completely clean water. After that I hung the carpets up to dry with a big fan blowing on them. What a difference.
I sure do wish that I had not wasted half a day vacuuming and cleaning the carpets first.

Another reason not to trust the dealer "detail" shop LOL
Exactly. I was young and got paid crap money to clean cars. Lol

Yeah- I probably should've just taken the carpets out.
