Wash and wax for extending the life of wax layer

I have heard about sealants and NuFinish. I will explore them when my two bottles of wax that I currently have, are out. Right now, though, I'm still in the Stone Age working with wax.

I am suspecting that one of the reasons why my two wax products (Collinite and Turtle Wax) lasted so long on my cars earlier this year, is that I was using Meguiars Ultimate Wash and Wax, whereas now, using just a regular soap, neither wax seems to be lasting.

So I'd like to buy another wash and wax, and see if I can't extend the life of my wax jobs.

As I said, I've had Meguiars Ultimate Wash and Wax. Is this the best one? I'd really like to stay below $15 if I can. Meguiars UW&W is 9 or less if its on sale. Is there a better wash and wax product in this price range that people would like to recommend--strictly on the basis of extending the life of wax. I'm not really into suds or how shiny the paint looks after you first wash it. Both cars are parked outside and within a few days I get lots of dust anyways, so my purpose here is really just to prolong the life of teh wax.

If you are convinced that the wash and wax does nothing to extend the life of the wax, feel free to chime in with your opinion, too. I can save money by buying only traditional car soaps if you convince me to.:props:
 
You have to pay attention to dilution ratio's when pricing soaps. Big box store varieties can call for 1oz/GAL, making them quite expensive in reality.

MUWW is a very good product for what you want. Might want to stick with it.

If you want to take a step up, Blackfire soap will extend your wax regimen exactly as you require. If you buy the bulk size on sale it becomes even more economical. It leaves behind gloss BIGTIME. Their Sealant is excellent also.

Stay away from NUfinish. Collinite is excellent
 
i would use a spray wax after a wash instead of a wash & wax shampoo, it will last longer...
 
I see what you mean about dilution ratio. My eyes popped out of my head when I saw the $48 price tag on blackfire, but then saw 1 oz for 3 gallons. Meguiars UW&W is 1 oz per 1 gallon of soap. So you really need to divide the $48 by 3, to compare apples to apples. Oh wait, blackfire is a full gallon; Meguiars UW&W is 48 oz. Man, that actually makes the blackfire product cheaper, if you use both according to the ratios prescribed. If you are ok with paying 50 bucks for car soap.

The autogeek page for blackfire didn't say that it was a wash and wax. Have you seen it extend the life of the wax job on your cars?
 
When I got the Blackfire shampoo I tried it on cars that hadn't been cared for in years. I had washed them with the turtle wax ice thats supposed to be a wash n wax a month or so before. They have never been waxed. The turtle wax left no noticeable gloss behind. The Blackfire made me stop and send pictures of my dads car to him. It doesn't make water bead so I can't say it will extend your wax too much but it most definitely leaves a great shine/gloss.

As visitor said, incorporate a spray wax into your regimen and you will get much more noticeable results in extended water beading/protection
 
3 products I would recommend are the following..

McKee's 37 Power Wash, foaming wash and wax I have used this in the past, and have a bottle on standby. A true wash/wax product that will leave protection and extend your wax.

Have you ever used a wax as you dry product? They will dramaticly extend the life of your wax!!

The PRIMA is on a whole different level. First time you use it you will see why. The griots is also very good. I sealed my vehicle in the spring with DP paint sealant. After every wash, I used a wax as you dry product. My sealant still look's like the day I applied it.

At this point, I'm trying to avoid the labor of waxing more often than I have to. Instead of using another product after washing, I'm thinking I might as well just apply more wax, than another temporary product that will not provide as much long lasting protection as a wax. At least, that's my take on wax sprays. I've never used them, so I don't know how easy they are to use.


Have you also used the Mequiars Ultimate Wash & Wax? If so, how would it compare to McKee's 37?
