My current method includes:

1. Rinse car.
2. Spray with foam gun and DP extreme. Let dwell for a minute or so.
3. Rinse.
4. Spray again with foam gun. Leave on surface.
5. Use the 2 bucket method with a Grit guard in my rinse bucket.
6. Rinse.
7. Dry with leaf blower followed by microfibers with a QD.

Here is my concern. Sometimes when I am at the hand wash stage I still feel little bits of stuff on the paint with my bare hand. Am I not using enough pressure with my wash mitt? I'm worried about scratching the paint if I try to "scrub it off" with my mitt or sponge. (The car has been recently clayed, followed by P21s paintwork cleanser before sealing)

Secondly, I also have a small electric power washer from HD that I used to use before I found this site. Is this safe to use on the car as far as scratches/swirls? Is the main concern that it reduces the life of the LSP?

Finally, I have bought several waterless and rinseless options for the winter, but clearly will require a "rinse off" of the salt and mega crud that can accumulate before using these. This is really the only option right? I'll probably also keep a mix in a garden sprayer to spray on in the winter, but sometimes I will just plain be forced to use the car wash hand sprayers for my initial step I would think.

Unless I can just drive down to Florida for the winter......

Thanks for any advice!

Let me know if you drive to Florida, I'll pay for the rental trailer so that you can haul my car down with you to clean. hehe.

For your first question: If you still feel contaminants that have pierced the paint finish I would assume you, or who ever clayed the car didn't do it properly. ***You are not suppose to be applying too much pressure when washing the car with your mitt. The mitt is suppose to pick up the debris, not scratch it into the surface of your finish. ( Try using OPC as a pre-treatment on those contaminants)

** Update**

Could possibly be iron deposits from brake dust and other contaminants, and if that's the case then try CarPro's IRON X. Fantastic!

I do not feel contaminants immediately after claying, so I do know that it was done properly. Clearly junk continues to re-build up on your surface, LSP or not. Perhaps what I'm feeling is simply that? Its not everywhere, its a "speck" here and there. With the amount of road construction they do every summer here....

I should probably look into this. Our water is so poor that it will rust out pipes like crazy. To the point that our hot water heater that was less than five years old, rusted out at the TOP, where the pipes connect. I use a whole house filter inside and you should see the rust accumulate. Of course outside is unfiltered, so the hose is as well.

I would definitely invest in a water softener......CR SPOTLESS or something Equivalent.
