Hi All,

When washing a customer's vehicle at their location and there is no source of shade for the vehicle, does anyone set up a canopy or tarp to block the sun from drying the vehicle too soon and creating water spots? If not, what are some other strategies or products that are used to prevent water spots? Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance,

Yeah, an EZ-Up or other pop-up tent can sure help with that. However, you might want to look into a rinseless wash, that will really help with water spots.

I hate using my ez up. I thought I'd go for the gusto and buy a really nice one. Problem is it weighs an absolute ton. If you do buy one buy a cheap flimsy one.

Because of how much I hate using my easy up I learned to work without one. Work quick and start early. Keep the car wet through the entire wash. Dry the car and roll the windows down. Clean the interior of the front and rear most windshields. Rolling the windows down will help keep them cool for when you clean then later and prevent them from streaking. That should help.

Use a shampoo that you can let dry on the surface, rinse the car, then rinse with pooling rinse method, mist the car with detail spray and then dry with a waffle weave towel.

Work quick, dry windows first, use a qd or spray wax as a drying aid.

ONR Wash
Re spray car after every couple of sections
Dry windows first

What size is your EZ up? I'm looking at a 12x12 straight leg...

I turn cars around when using a rinseless or waterless. Really only the hood and roof you need to work quick.

Always be careful when working quick though.

Chemical Guys "Mr Pink" car wash works great for me in direct sunlight.

Which shampoo would you suggest?

I don't know of one the AG sells and recommends that, but Adam's is ok to let dry. He says in their newest videos you can wash your car, go have lunch, and rinse it off when you're done.

Its a 12x12 straight leg lol. I ordered it off a website and was like "if im going to start this business im not going to cut corners and get something cheap that will break" So i found one that every one said, in a joking way, could stand up to gale force winds and some one else said something like "when hurricane katrina hit my neighborhood was leveled. The only thing left standing was this EZ UP" lol so being as i live in a windy area i figured this would be my best bet but ill probably never use it again. Its just way to heavy for one man to set up and take down. Especially after 8 hours of buffing my arms are like jello.

Surprisingly i havent really needed it. But if i ever feel as though i need one ill just head up to big 5 or look on craiglist and find a cheap one. When i get a trailer though what i plan on doing is getting one of those retractable awnings on it and then just park the vehicle next to the trailer under the awning. I dont see that happening any time soon though lol.

Garry Dean method works great since you immediately dry the panel you're working on. I always try to do my washing early in the morning before it gets really hot and sunny.

Duragloss shampoo and waterless and rinseless products are a great combo if having to work in direct sun and or high temps. Limit the amount of water sprayed on the vehicle especially if there is only very light dirt on the vehicle. I usually only apply car shampoo to the dirtier areas like the lower portions, and use ONR and or a waterless wash product on the upper areas. Only work one manageable section at a time and dry the section before moving to the next one. Working from the bottom to the upper areas is a method I use to allow me to use a waterless/rinseless product all the way down without worrying about working into dirty areas. Basically I do the wheels/wells and work into the lower/dirtier section with a tradition wash method. Then work top down with rinseless/waterless.

I did an orange lamborghini earlier today, i made a canopy with tarp and 4 stand alone poles i welded at home

Infinite Use Detail Juice was designed to be used in direct sunlight. I use it for all my maintenance washes and it's amazing
