Random Tip:

2-3 cups of vinegar in an empty large, hot-water cycle of your washing machine will dissolve all the built up detergent, fabric softener and grime in and outside the drum.

This is great for making sure the machine is safe for your MF towels beforehand or to get rid of all the oils, waxes and grime left behind afterwards, if you're likely to get in trouble for that sort of thing from your S/O...

I do the same process with my dryer by pouring the vinegar over a couple terry towels winging them out and tossing them in the empty dryer on high heat at the same time.

good advice. in jan. i cracked down on all the appliances. washer got tide washer cleaner. dishwasher got the treatmeant. oven cleaned. fridge cleaned and dryer lint trap cleaned with the lint lizard. appliances are not cheap!!
 
I know. Interestingly, my grandma taught me this trick almost 30yrs ago so even though its a great idea for protecting our new-age microfiber towels, it's really just old school wisdom.

And considering it's only $2.50 a gallon at Wal-Mart, it's still cost effective as well...

Just as a caveat, pregnant women have very sensitive senses of smell and inversely proportionate amounts of tolerance/reason so if you're currently harboring one you may want to find out if she has an aversion to the smell of vinegar in the laundry room.

Trust me, the dirty laundry machine would be easier to explain. I, as a man, an completely reasonable and have no sense of smell so it works for me...

I wish everyone knew about this.

It makes washers last much longer. And don't forget to clean out all the lint holding areas in the dryer too

And since we are on the subject. Drain your water heater once a year and clean out underneath it too. And if you have a replaceable anode be sure to put in a new one every other year. They only cost about $25.00 and could add years to the life or your water heater.

White vinegar is amazing and for some reason we've been duped into buying more expensive products that don't perform as well and cost a lot more.....:props:
