Hey guys, I wanted to share my experience with washing mf towels. So far, I've been using regular laundry detergent in the washer but it is not cutting it. I recently found out that dish soap works extremely well at getting rid of dirt and grease stains while pretreating the grease stains with simple green. If you want to try it. Use only a tablespoon worth of dish soap otherwise it will bubble over!

I'm going to go out on a limb here and suggest your success with the grease and dirt is a result of the pretreatment with Simple Green rather than your tablespoon of dish soap.

The towels i use to wipe down the tires and wheel wells go in the garbage after a few uses. I made the mistake of washing them once and the washing machine spindle turned black from all that crap

In addition to any pretreatment, extra soiled microfibers should be placed in a bucket to soak for a few hours.
I'm with frank p, if they are too dirty toss them, not worth the possible harm they can do to the washer or by cross contamination.

Same here I'm good for 4 a week in the garbage. When using dish soap it's hard for the machine to rinse them and causes big time streaks on glass.

I would try the above methods for degreasers/simple green/dish soap IF washing. Personally, I would use cheap, disposable shop rags for wheel wells and engine compartments and the like.

I add a capful of APC along with my laundry detergent for washing microfiber towels. When they are very dirty, I let them soak in hot water in 5 gallon bucket with some APC in it for about an hour before washing them. I wish I had a way to have boiling water in large quantity, that would be even better.

I think I read somewhere that brake dust is so clingy it might not completely go away after a wash; so you should wash towels used on wheels seperately.

Is this true? If so, any reason why I shouldn't just hand wash them in a bucket and skip the washer altogether?

Yup. I get a bundle of cheapo's from Target every so often. They go from wheel washers, to wheel wells, to tires, to the dumpster. Never touch my washer. Bucket with APC their whole short life.
