Well, I took my first run at using iron-X and hope I did it right. Washed the car and dried it then I sprayed it down with Iron-X. While it was still wet I spread it around with a damp, not wet grout sponge. When I did this it produced a white film. I let this sit for about 5 minutes and then rinced off. I was expecting to see little spots of rust disolving but didn't see any that stood out HOWEVER when I rinsed the car the water running on the driveway was a very rusty color. SO...I guess it did it's thing? Afterward I could still feel some rough bumps here and there so I guess Iron-X doesn't get it all. Was planning on going over the car with clay before polishing. Does this sound like things went as they should have?

Maybe you didn't have any iron embedded. You still need to clay and clay removes more than just iron.

Correct. Especially if you're trying to get good bleeding pictures.

Should have just let the Iron X dwell and do it's thing.

That would actually be a "good sign".
Bleeding means damage, no bleeding means no damage.
Iron X is one of those product you want to use but hope it wasn't needed.
Correct. Iron X should be used to chemically decontaminate paint followed by some type of mechanical decontamination.
if you let it sit for at least 5 minutes and don't see any bleeding, then spread it lightly and rinse. of course, if the car is black it will be a little more difficult to see on the car, so that's when you should see it on the ground before and after rinsing.

Here's what you actaully don't want to see....
Look closely.... the glass and plastic surfaces are also bleeding red....
My buddy Jay detailed this car for his sister after she bought it from the original owner. The original owner parked it next to a sprinkler that covered the car with heavy iron contaminated water for years....

Thank you and Mike. Several on the forum indicated to spray on and immediately spread out with a sponge to get good coverage, which is what I did. I am going to come back next weekend and clay and polish so I am not inclined to Iron-X again unless you two think I should. BTW the car is a gun metal gray color. The car is a 2013 dealer car with 11.500 miles and while it looks in good condition obviously had never had the rail dust removed. and yes there was a lot of rusty rinse water on the ground. Thanks.

Spray and let it dwell, do not spread around. For tough spots, iron-x and clay bar works amazing.

after it dwells for a bit then spread with damp sponge, let dwell for a bit and rinse, rinse, rinse
