My 1 month old Tesla Model 3 has several blotches on the hood which looks like water spots. I can only see in direct sunlight or under a fluorescent light on the ceiling. In both cases, it can only been seen when light or sun is reflected on the surface. See the attached photo.

I tried Vinegar solution and MDR and it didn’t help.

I am confused on how these spots happed. Anyone know what these are and how to remove them?

I am both really stuck and concerned this happened on a new car. Any help is greatly appreciated.

New cars aren't kept indoors until delivered to you. Water sprinklers in the area, certain type of pollution on the car that gets wet and let to dry in the sun, all those can lead to water spots. They could also be bird poop that etched the paint due to sitting there too long. If MDR/vinegar didn't work, you'll need to polish the paint to level it again and make the etching disappear.

If vinegar does not work or some other water spot remover product doesn't, more than likely you will need to polish it out. If it's severe then compound and polish.

KEEP ON ROCKING!

If the Optimum MDR didn't remove the water spots, they have etched the surface. You will need to polish the hood to remove the etched water spots.

Thanks Bruno. These spots are all over the hood. I will checkout the polishing option.

Ok. Thanks. I might have to go to a professionally get this one.

Thanks Bobby. General consensus seems to be polishing route.

You don't need to see a professional.

For what he would charge you, you could pick up a Griots G9 polisher, pads, and polishing liquid and do the job yourself in no time.

Plus, you'll have the tools you need to keep the paint looking tip-top for years to come................ :)
