Can you recommend a wax that will make brown paint really shine? I have used wolfgang fusion and Pinnacle Souveran as well as the cheaper store bought ones and none really do the trick. I have used wolfgang spray spritz and it does pretty good but still not eye popping. Is there just no hope for this color of brown? Thanks Richard

I also have a brown car but a bit darker than yours. So far, here is my observation:
- collinite 476 (paste) = lightens the color. Has a shine that is like a white light.
- meguiars hi tech yellow wax = darkens the color further with good "liquid" shine
- formula 1 liquid carnauba = standard shine. Nothing spectacular.

I'm not Mike, but my my 1st thought is the paint could benefit from a good cleaning/polish to make it pop. Something like Meguiars White Wax [a cleaner wax] applied with a DA polisher should achieve the noticeable results you're after. Either that or a good polish applied the same way, followed by your choice of protection.

So i assume clay bar first then polish? Have you tried clay barring without polishing? If yes, how was the result?

Yes claybar or clay towel/mitt 1st then polish... I clay without polishing afterwards quite often and have never had a situation where I planned to clay and not polish but ended up creating more work and Had to polish due to clay marring. Never.

Just last weekend I clayed a 2011 Kia Optima that had never been clayed so I used a Med. grade Nanoskin mitt. Results were great and I went straight to lsp.

It's important to use plenty of claylube whenever you're claying in order to do it safely and not inflict any negative effects or marring while you're claying. Some people may think this is an extreme amount of claylube to have used on a normL sized sedan...

But then again those are probably the ones who say it's Mandatory to polish after claying and wind up with marring all the time... Not me.

Thanks el dorado. For our friend here, i think clay bar and a good wax will be enough

Always start off with a test spot when claying.. Spray a liberal amount of claylube onto a clean panel that's cool to the touch and not in direct sunlight.

Plenty of lube and make sure to spray your clay media as well, start off light and let the paint guide your gradual increase in speed as you'll notice it becomes easier as the contaminants begin to come off the paint.

It you decide to go with 1 of the clay kits [such as Meguiars or Mothers] make sure to buy an additional bottle of the quik detailer that way you don't feel the need to preserve the bottle and wind up not being liberal enough... Having more on deck is reassuring.

I just ordered the opti-clay towel. Just waiting for my order! 1st time using clay. :)

I also ordered ONRWW. I plan to use that as clay lube WITH optimum car wax for the finishing touch.

have you decontaminated and thoroughly polished the paint yet or recently? about 90% of the gloss and how the paint looks/feels comes from that stage. you can put the most amazing LSP (last step product aka wax/sealant/coating) on any car but if you haven't done the previous then you wouldn't enjoy the full benefits and not to mention the LSP will not last as long. think of a wound/cut that wasn't fully wiped cleaned before you put a band-aid on, it would fall off soon and probably get infected and not heal as soon if that makes sense...

You may want to re-think the purchase of the OPT clay towel. I bought one not long ago and I have to say it is not that good. It left sticky residue on the my glass when I was breaking it in. The residue was a pain in the butt to remove. I tried ONR and McKee's N914 as clay lube. Same results. I tried it with optimum car wax as clay lube as Optimum recommends that as well on one area of the paint and same results. It does not glide that well. Supposedly Optimum redesigned these towels but I think they need to go back to the drawing board on this one. I am not the only one that has had this issue. Many in the Detalks facebook group mentioned the same thing/

I ended up switching back to the Griot's clay mitt which has been working well for me.

I would consider another clay towel or mitt.

Ouch! Shipment is already on its way... :(

I will probably use it in my shower door first to "break it in".

Thanks for the heads up sir

Yes sir I did clay bar it once but didn't try just clay bar. I used meguiars clay bar kit so not sure if that sufficient. When it comes to clay bar/bars I do not know much about it, maybe their is a brand that is better I am not aware.

I clay bared it but as far as polish is there a difference between polish and wax? If you mean wax then yes I used pinnacle on a great lakes pad on porter cable buffer.

I had a brown Sorento that looked really good with Blackfire Black Ice

Flatter the panel...brighter the paint/gloss...

Claying will add or help increasing the "pop" factor in paint.

Tom

A color like that, if using a wax, I would go for a Paste wax heavy with Carnauba wax. Collenite 915 comes to mind first.
