Hi all,

Is there a specific wax that is made to last on something that gets hot? I'm polishing my aluminum exhaust pipes and would love to be able to seal them somehow. Just not sure what would last best with the heat.

Thanks in advance!

Sealant or Coating ... don't use a traditional wax. If you use Flitz Metal Polish it has some protection build in as another choice.

I used a coat of Klasse AIO after polishing and it seems to be holding up well. But it's a factory tip over the exhaust pipe itself, so it may not get as hot as some others.

Aren't all OEM or aftermarket chrome or stainless tips installed over the existing tail pipe?

Thanks for the suggestions, all. I will admit I had hoped for more of a consensus because now I don't know which to use! I'll have to research them all. I like the pricing on the Collinite just off hand!

Now that you mention it, I'm not sure how hot the exhausts get. Never had the guts to test it out. They are Two Brother's slip ons. So I really don't know if they get super-hot or not.

Spray some AA Wheel Protectant on them and they'll stay absolutely spotless for 5 weeks as long as you don't touch them.

I was thinking something like either this factory style which slips over the plain exhaust pipe vs an aftermarket muffler which in this photo is single-walled and would get hotter. There are also double-walled tips, which depending on the construction may not get as hot as a single-walled tip. OP said exhaust pipes, so I thought any of these could apply.

Relative to each other, I'd say that single-wall tips would be hottest, followed by double-wall and then slip-on tips being the coolest.

Thanks for the advice, all!

Derass: relative to heat, I think what you said makes sense. However, I'm not sure if slip-on is used to mean different things, but in this case the slip-ons replaced the factory mufflers. I only know this because the factory muffler is way too fat to fit inside. I guess as far as the exhaust pipe itself, maybe it could have, but I'm pretty sure in this case slip-on refers to the fact the mufflers aren't welded to the rest of the exhaust system - they just "slip-on" and attach with some type of a clamping/perhaps flare fit mechanism (they were on the bike when I bought it so I don't know more specifics).

This is what it looks like: View attachment 53926

It's on my motorcycle so almost the whole exhaust is showing. The tips themselves aren't polished so that's good (I think like you said they would get the hottest).

Anyways, all that aside, thanks for the help, all. I'll look into those and see what to add to my next order.

I use Gyeon Rim on all Metals. Nothing better than a coating that will last wash after wash and the crud just wipes right off.

Welcome to the forum btw!

Thats the great thing about this forum, there very rarely is consensus on much, but never are there really wrong or bad opinions. There are just to many great products out there for consensus to occur often.
