If you do a simple search on the forum you will get hundreds of threads about favorite waxes. But it is always fun to start a new one. 
I would make sure the paint is properly polished before applying any protection. My favorite carnauba wax for summer months is Blackfire Midnight Sun. Well worth the money, easy on and easy off. Also lasts longer than traditional waxes, up to 1.5 months from what I have seen. For winter months I use Collinite 845. It gives a strong 4-5 months during the winter time. I also use it my wheels to help reduce the amount of brake dust build up.

Almost any type of wax or sealant will do the trick. What are you looking to acheive, durability or ultimate shine and depth? What have you used in the past? It's all a matter of personal preference, given all the choices that are available.
I tend to stick with Megs...it's what I know and have used for the longest time. Thats not to say I have'nt tried others...Bottom line (IMO) is use what you like or are comfortable with. Everyone here will have a different opinion.

I'd go with Optimum Car Wax (OCW). Since it is a spray, it easy to apply (spray on and wipe off), has good longevity, and produces a great shine. For me, it's as easy as using a quick detail spray.
It also contains UV protection so I use it on my exterior trim as well, and it does not stain trim. Others have reported streaking issues with OCW, but I have not experienced streaking issues on my black C6. The key is to not use too much product. A little OCW goes a long way.
Since it is so easy to use, you can use as often you like.

If you're not going to do anything else besides wash and wax, I'd look for a good all-in-one (AIO) which polishes and waxes or seals in one step. There are many choices out there. For something you can buy at Walmart or autozone look for meguiars or mothers that says "cleans and protects in one step" or something like that on the package. Meg's ultimate wax or NXT tech wax or mothers Cali gold carnauba cleaner wax would be good choices.
If you order online, theres a ton of good stuff available just search through AG's store for cleaner waxes and read the description. Probably not a bad product in there for someone just starting but if you have questions definitely ask.

That's like asking what is the best oil, or flavor of ice cream, or pie? There are THOUSANDS of waxes on the market. Decide if you want pretty or durability (or both) and research to come up with some informed choices within your budget. If 500 people answer your question you could potentially get 500 different answers because there is no best, just opinions of what is best.

Almost all of the waxes AG sells are very good or excellent. What you need to do, is read over the descriptions, decide how much you want to spend and pick a wax. Some questions to ask yourself:
1. What's most important, durability, looks, or ease of application. If you like to wax frequently, you may want something easy to apply, like P21S or Optimum Car Wax.
2. How much do you want to spend? you can get great waxes for relatively inexpensive prices (Collonite under 20 dollars) or for more (Zymol Royale $8,5000)
3. Do you want a product specifically made for dark or light cars, either way Dodo Juice and Zymol have you covered.
4. Do you have a garage to work in? If not, you may want a wax that can be applied is sunlight, like PoorBoys Natty's.
5. Are you applying it directly on paint or over a sealant? If over a sealant, you may want to consider both the wax and the sealant from the same manufacturer, like Blackfire. I'd you want a wax with some properties of a sealant, you may want to try Fuzion or Chemical Guys XXX Hardcore wax.
6. Do you plan on applying by hand or machine? Although you can apply a paste wax with a machine, it may be easier to apply a liquid wax this way like Pinnacle Sovereign Liquid wax or 1Z Liquid Wax. If you plant on applying paste wax with a machine, you may want to check out Dodo Juice Supernatural in the 2 ounce size.
7. Do you park outside or indoors? Some waxes like Optimum Car Wax are known for their UV inhibitor properties which can save your paint in the long run is exposed to constant sun. Other waxes, are known to collect dust outside.
8. Do you want a pure wax or one with filling abilities that can hide some imperfections. Many of the costliest waxes require a near perfect finish to look great and don't hide any flaws. Other waxes, like Sonax Premium Carnuba wax is known to hide some flaws. Other waxes, like Poor Boys Polish with Carnuaba can actually correct some flaws.
8. Do you like to try a lot of waxes? If that's the case, you may want to start out with a quality wax that comes in a smaller size, like Dodo Supernatural 30 ml, or the small pots of Fuzion, Victoria Wax, Lusso Oro, or Blackfire Midnight Sun. All these are top waxes that can be purchased in smaller quantities to try.
... So you see, it's up to you to figure out what will work best for your specific car for your specific situation.

BF Midnight sun is my favorite. I usually don't use waxes,only sealants but I really love the look of this wax. Im kinda bummed to read that it only lasts 1.5 months. I haven't used it long enough to verify that but we will see. I love both the look and how its wipe on wipe off. Makes it super easy to use and simple to rub off
