Hey all, I've been asking a bunch of different forums this question just trying to get a wide range of answers...

I need some help, I`m so confused with this whole wax or sealent thing. I just have some questions and hopefully someone can help me![/FONT]

Wax VS Sealent... I don`t get it, do they have the same UV protection? Is it just that Wax doesn`t last as long?? I`m so confused... could someone just explain to this newbie what they both do and their differences?

secondly, I just did some wetsanding on my car, now the results came our AWESOME but my only issue is I`m curious if I should use something for extra protection. Right now I`ve got some Wax on the car, does that help with UV rays?

Thanks for for the help!

I have several expensive waxes but don't use them anymore since switching to sealants and coatings. For the price you can't beat Gtechniq C2v3

An "in general" answer to your question... "Waxes" derive their protective ability from naturally occurring substances (ex. Carnauba wax). "Sealants" derive their protective ability from man-made substances (commonly referred to as "synthetic waxes").

In practice, there is some overlap between the two terms (ex. Meguiar's Ultimate Liquid Wax is actually a 100% synthetic polymer paint sealant-- no naturally occurring wax at all). They call it a wax for marketing purposes (i.e. most people shopping at big box stores don't know what "sealants" are, so they simply call it a wax).

To note: Many products containing naturally occurring wax also contain synthetic ingredients, as well (ex. Meguiar's Gold Class+; it contains both carnauba wax and synthetic polymers).

For the sake of simplicity (and on the forum in most cases), you can assume "waxes" contain at least some naturally occurring ingredients. "Sealants" are generally 100% man-made (synthetic).

In general-- waxes have a shorter life and give a warm, wet, deep glow. Sealants last longer and give a bright, sharp, mirror-like shine.

IMO:
Sounds like a perfect candidate for
something along the order of Nanoskin's:
Nano Ceramic Synthetic Sealant.
