What do you all think about Flash based websites? If you had a fair budget for building a detailing website, would you stick to a simple site? Even if it was simple to navigate? Please provide some feedback.

Thanks

Has to be iPhone compatable sick of sites where I can't access certain content.
Just a thought.

Use HTML 5 Do NOT use Flash...you heard it right here...DO NOT use Flash.

My idea does not include lots of animation. It will consist of a few animated "buttons" for the links. The background will most likely remain constant, nothing real busy on the page. I just don't want to be a run of the mill click link-change page or click link-drop down menu etc. Just enough activity to make a person wonder what's going to happen when I click here. I am considering something additional for smart phone users so they don't use a lot of bandwidth.

I will look into the HTML 5 vs. Flash but I won't be building the site, the developer will have a better understanding than I will! :)

I kept my site simple because I find the flash animation annoying sometimes. to each his own. but it's also something that can fail or make it difficult to view on mobile devices. So I stayed simple

Simple is my personal preference and what I stick to. There is so much you can do with HTML/CSS/JavaScript it almost makes Flash irrelevant. Especially if browsers start fulling supporting HTML5 and CSS3.

<Canvas> + javascript, may put a hurting on Adobe's Flash sales.

Usability and user experience are so important.

I would not use flash, make sure you add the Google bots to every page of your website. It will help aid google in finding your site. Googles web bots from what I understand cannot crawl flash sites.

Flash is dead and it's not my personal opinion - it's a common trend.

The KISS rule applies.

Keep It Simple, Stupid!

:iagree:

GoDaddy for your domain (*preferably .com) - I use HostGator 'Baby Plan' w/unlimited domains for like $10 per month. Use Fantastico in Cpanel, upload a Wordpress theme, modify to your liking and Wah-Lah... you're good to go.

Started mine last week, already have 4 slots on first page of google, and I haven't even really put any content on it yet. Flash sites are SEO Nightmares... and they rarely see any 'traffic' aside from those you 'directly' give the web address too.

I personally think flash sites are for models & photographers not information and service based sites... but for under $20 you can have a real site (+$10 or less per month hosting) and "G" loves Wordpress!

If you choose to use flash or HTML 5 , either way make sure you have a mobile enabled site, so when people connect to it with a mobile device, they get the mobile version.

Some sites have what they call mobile sites, but they are severely lacking in content, to get it to work.

Flash is not dead.
It is to people that use Apple devices, but to the remainder of the free world that does not buy into the thimble of upgrades every 12 months, flash works just fine.

I do some programming on the side and I have the second the caution about flash. I only use flash for certain types of sites as it presents some unique challenges as stated above in this thread. If a client has their heart set on the use of flash I'll do it, but it's certainly not my go to design. Also, keep in mind a lot of people have flash disabled in their internet browsers to block ads, etc. If you're looking for the most bang for your buck, stick with a basic site with a nice clean design. Just my $0.02.....

:-) It IS dead. I work for a major advertising company that builds websites for Fortune 500 clients. There's been a trend over the last few years of completely moving away from Flash towards HTML5/CSS3.
