I have this machine. I am looking to use it to polish an aluminum boat (remove oxidation first, then polish) I was looking to use a Wool Metal polish pad with a good cutting gon this unit. What Lake Country Pads can I use on this?

The backing pad is 7" across with Velcro across the entire surface. I've contacted Lake Country and they just can't seem to answer the questions I asked which really frustrates me. I gave them ALL the information I have and ask specifis questions for them to only answer back with one type of unit is it, what size is the backing plate, is it Velcro. I mean do they even read the emails thoroughly?

I have a WEN 943 7" Polisher/Sander

(I also have a Meg's G110V2 Da)

Since the DA won't be strong enough I figured this WEN, which is an older model would help do the job better.

I'm doing a 17' Bass Pro Shop Crappie Pro Fishing Boat

It's is Aluminum. I have had suggestions of using a Wool pad with the rotary from other members on Meguiar's Forums. I'm not questioning their ability, I'm question WHAT PART # of WOOL pad do I need? lol

ok to sum it up.

17' Aluminum Fishing Boat
WEN Model 943 7" Polisher/Sander with rubber backing pad with Velcro backing
Need wool pad part#/suggestion part# to buff out oxidation then a final polish
Intend on using the DA with a meg's foam pad for the final polish

No acid wash on boat, customer just wants it polished best that it can be. So not looking for taking forever on it. (they are selling it)

Thank you for any help. Pictures of polisher and boat follow;

Looks like right around the 6-11/16" or just shy of 6-3/4" mark

Thank you I trust your insight and appreciate your help. This is my first boat. So totally new to it, but have many pointers from the guys at Meguiar's. Even been on the phone with Mario from Please Wash Me Detailing in CA. Great to be involved and surrounded by a fantastic group of guys willing to help each other out!!

Make sure it isn't coated first. Do a test spot that will tell you right away. We used Lake Country pads on this -

We had 3 types of pads made and shipped to us quickly by LC so there was no time to silkscreen their name or part number on them so I can not provide that. I can tell you to speak with Scott at LC and ask him about the pads we used on the B-17.

Here you go...

This is just a tick larger than 6 3/4" on the inside and has the plastic inner cupped sidewall that makes fitting the pad to the backing plate easy and protects whatever you're buffing from the edgie of the bakcing plate.

7.5 inch Hook & Loop DuroWool 100% Twisted Wool Cutting Pad

Lake Country’s Wool Cutting Pad is made of 100% wool twisted into hundreds of individual strands. The tight twisting allows the pad to operate at a consistent level of aggressiveness for longer periods. With a 1 inch pile, the pad will hold up to many, many uses. The pad has a diameter of 7.5 inches but the thick pile gives it an overall diameter of 8 inches. The Wool Cutting Pad is intended for severe swirls, scratches and heavy oxidation.

If you don't have a Spur... get one...

Lake Country Wool Pad Spur

Here's a shot of Audrey spuring a wool pad, notice how she rests the back of the buffer against her leg and then draws the spur from the center outward.

Man 2 major pros here answering. I love it. Thanks Joe, but it's not coated. I wanted to do an acid wash for the guy but he didn't want to pay the price for me to do it, so we settled on washing and polishing what I can out without wearing myself out. lol

Thanks Mike for the info. I will be purchasing those tomorrow. Hopefully I can get them all before next weekend. That's my time to do the boat.

BTW- You mentioned "Please Wash Me". In the last pic I posted... the guys standing up is "Mr. Please Wash Me" himself. I good buddy of mine that always has my back.

Best of luck to you and post AFTER pics!

Joe - Yes Mario. A lot of great help from him as well. I'll definitely post after pics for you all.

One last thing, do you think any metal polish with work ok? I have some Flitz and Mothers, but low amounts of the Mother's. Would the Meguiar's Heavy Cut Metal Polish work and then follow up with a foam pad and the DA with the fine cut? Or get the Marine31 or Blue Magic polish?

If the Meg's HC, how many tubes you think I'd need? They are 4.2oz each. The Fine polish is a 5 oz can.

Thank you again!

I decided to go with the Marine 31 metal polish. Do you think 1 or 2 cans? I'm waiting to submit my order as I need to get it before next weekend. Thank you.

Mike I have a HUGE problem I ordered the wools pads you linked which was item 41-005.

I just received them today. These pads are TOO SMALL. The inside hook and loop is only 5-11/16" or so. I need 6-11/16" or. We're talking a full 1 " too small.

I ordered 6 of these. The even bigger problem is the boat detail is in 2 days, Saturday the 26th. What can be done? I ordered from Marine 31 which I know you're part of. I only ordered from them because they had the 3 pack of the 41-005's. So I ordered 2 3 packs. I have to have these by Saturday. I can't turn the boat away.

What to do? Please help!

After looking, it looks like you should have recommended this one

8.5 inch Hook & Loop DuroWool 100% Wool Pads the 8.5" for use with 7" backing plate.

You linked the 7.5" for use with the 6" backing plate.

Is there anyway they can overnight or next day 6 of those and send a call tag for the other 6?? I need these really bad. Please help!!

Dang.... sorry about this...

Working from your picture you posted here,

And the measurement I posted here,

Here you go...

This is just a tick larger than 6 3/4" on the inside and has the plastic inner cupped sidewall that makes fitting the pad to the backing plate easy and protects whatever you're buffing from the edgie of the bakcing plate.

To me the measurements look like the pads will fit?

I just sent you my cell in reply to your PM

We'll take care of this...

:)

Hey Michael,

Just talked to Nick and he's going to get you the pads shipped out overnight. For what it's worth, in the 4 years I've been here and the almost 40,000 posts, this is the first measuring mistake I've made, at least that I can remember. :D

I'll send you a copy of my new book too...

Be sure to take some good before and after pictures!

:dblthumb2:

Yes Mike thank you for taking the time to write and talk to me over the phone. I wanted to comment on my "you should of posted this" line in the above statements by me. That wasn't meant to come off disrespectful, I "should" have said "I think you meant to link these". lol Anywho all is good and thanks for the phone chat. I do appreciate it.

Next time quit doing too much at once, lol. Can you sure detail a vehicle but you can't read mesurements vary good, lol. just kidding.

I will get pictures before and after of the boat for sure and post the link here to your detailing work section for others to see!
