Wetsanding scratches.....

I searched for wet sanding threads and mostly got orange peel questions.

After practicing on some random junkers with the rotary I find that i risk burning paint trying to eliminate or diminish deep scratches. ESPECIALLY on painted plastic. 2 bumpers at the junkyard I melted a bit of paint using a mild polish, a yellow pad and 1500 rpms with the rotary.

So Im thinking instead of trying to use a rotary for those bad scratches that I would try wetsanding.

I'm wanting to go two routes....Meguiars Unigrit sanding paper (with block?)
OR the 2 inch Backing plate for the DA and using the Trizac discs. I have used those same discs before in a 3M headlight kit. Seems pretty good just dont know if its overkill and I could use just the paper for the same results....

From what I've been reading, don't use the PC or DA to wetsand as the actual movement of the machine is too big and leaves massive pigtails. I've wetsanded plenty of plastics and use a soft meguiar's sanding block and polished out the sanding marks with my Griot's with much success, though using a rotary is faster. Just make sure you get out all of the sanding marks.

Megs unigrit w/block. The block helps keep the pressure even.
