Hi All - new to the forum and am really enjoying the treasure trove of info here. Took advantage of the great Memorial Day sale and can’t wait to get my new products.

I noticed two of these spots on the hood of my car yesterday and was hoping someone could help ID it. I did some searching for common things and it didn’t seem to match any of them.

I’m in the Pacific Northwest so of course it sprinkled a couple drops. Surface seems to be smooth and their both appear circular depending on the angle.

Here’s some photos:

What kind of car? Year, Make, and Model

looks to be clear failure initially.

Agree. Almost looks like a speck of contaminant like a ferrous metal was left on the paint until it finally penetrated and broke through. Good example of why one needs to remove them as they accumulate.

I found specks like that on my 2002 Sequoia and i couldn’t figure it out either. I finally decided it was the Rain-X bottle slipping and laying flat on the hood, and a few drops spilled out, then left on the hood for weeks on end. I wasn’t using the Sequoia much at that time so it’s possible something spilled and soaked really good into the clear coat, and Rain-X was the only thing I could think it could have been.

is there a way to link us to larger pics or use the following to embed larger versions
as the native autogeek embedding system stinks and only shows smaller less resolution sizes that don't show well.

It’s a 2018 Porsche Cayenne.

Appreciate all the input. I’ll try and upload better pics tonight. I did email them to you TTQ B4U.

Here's a 100% crop of the image at full size.

I still say it was either a contaminant that penetrated or perhaps a small chip that started to rust and got under the clear coat. I would neutralize the rust area and fill the spot with touch up, wet sand and blend.

Stopped by a paint guy on the way home from work to get it looked at. He took some 3M polish and basically cleared it up. Still very faint clear coat etching. He thought it was either bird droppings or bugs.

Thanks again for all the thoughts and input, especially TTQ B4U for cropping and linking a pic for me. Some great people on this forum.

Nice to hear the result.

For the future, download the Taptalk app on your phone.

Pics are so easy to post on the forum, and you can choose the size.

The AG (or any forum) format is like Chinese algebra to negotiate.
