Hi! I was curious about what all I would need to use my Griot's Garage 3 and 6 inch machines to wet-sand. I was planning on purchasing Meguiar's 3 and 6 inch Unigrit foam interface pads and either 3M or Meguiars foam sandpaper discs.

Do you need to get the Unigrit backing plates too? I don't see why this would be necessary but I just want to make sure.

Thanks!

Damp-Sanding Tools, Tips and Techniques by Mike Phillips

In my opinion, machine wet sanding is the best way to go...

Also, the primary difference (that I know of), between 3M Trizact and Meguiar's Unigrit discs is the Trizact discs start cutting instantly while the Meguiar's Unigrit discs need to break-in first. That is the medium that the abrasives are embodied into needs to break down to expose the abrasives. What this means is you won't see the Meguiar's discs cut instantly, instead you need to make a few passes and then they will start to cut.

Also, 3M goes all the way to #5000. The highest you can get with Meguiar's is #3000

Approximately 1/2" thick

Also, Meguiar's says don't add any soap to your clean water for sanding, the medium takes care of lubrication.

3M does recommend a few drops of a car wash soap in your clean water supply.

Hey Mike, I actually uses ONR solution with my wet sanding. Could that be a factor that kills my discs faster?
