What are these white spots?

I have a 79 corvette that is single stage paint. I took the car cover off last week and noticed white spots on the hood, any ideas how to get rid of them?

I'm also open to ideas on how to restore the paint. I plan on using a clay bar, Meguires #7 to polish, and then carnauba wax. Should I also use Meguires Ultimate Compound after the clay bar?

I have the Meguires DA power system I could use.

Thanks for the information! My Vette looks a lot better! There are still a few white spots remaining, but they are really light compared to how they were.

I plan to wax the Vette tomorrow and have a question. Could I use 2 waxes? I have liquid synthetic wax and Carnauba Wax.

It sounds like your clear coat may be peeling. This is normal most clear coats will begin to peel after a while. Some clear coats peel faster than others it just depends on the type of paint used and the technique used by the painter. The clear coat is a UV protectant for the base coat. It protects the base coat from ultraviolate radiation that the sun gives off. Sometimes, however, if its really hot for a long period of time and doesn't rain or cool off for a long time then the UV rays can penetrate the clear coat and cause it to peel. It's not anything to worry about but when your lease ends if they ask what that is just tell them the clear coat is peeling.
