Black Rabbit on Netflix oh and The last of us on HBO-MAX

I've recently rediscovered Malcolm Douglas and his documentaries. From memory, these were aired on Saturday or Sunday nights in the 90's. For whatever reason, I always found them fascinating. And the soundtrack is iconic, from the opening and closing credits, to the backing track and sound effects.

For the US readers, Malcolm filmed these documentaries from the late 1960's through till 2009. The second video above was the first, filmed in 1969 and named "Across the Top". Sadly, Malcome passed away in 2010 from a car crash, aged 69.

The key with Malcolm was he let the visuals do the story telling. While each film is narrated, Malcolm wasn't always in shot or speaking to camera. The modern adventure programs are all about the presenter big noting what they've just done with a rig they didn't pay for, often with a forced Aussie accent...........................mate this, mate that. Basically, they are a 30 - 60-minute advertising platform and ego inflator, all heavily sponsored and nowhere near as entertaining compared to what Malcolm pioneered.

Really enjoyed this Hagerty Retrospective, which looks back a golden era for the sport sedan.

It's shame that despite nearly two decades of "progress", the modern equivalents are not exactly better. The M3 may be faster, but its become porky, ungainly to look at and riddled with fake engine sound pumped into the cabin. The E90/E91/E92 M3 was the last M3 in my opinion. Audi no longer sell the RS4, and the effective RS5 replacement is nowhere near as good to drive or listen to than B7 model. Many say its the best driving Audi before or after. And the current C63 with its hybrid turbo 4 is, as Jason described, "totally misunderstands everything that makes an AMG an AMG".

The modern versions might be faster, more refined and safer, but none of them give me the rev-head goosebumps. The BMW M 4.0 V8, Audi RS 4.2 V8, and AMG 6.3 V8 are easily some of the very best engines ever created. All sound amazing, and its REAL sound. All have that glorious linear power and torque curve, something that only a naturally aspirated engine can offer. And yes, all three have known issues, but what brand/engine doesn't?

Of those vehicles, the M3 would be at the top of the list. I love that snarling induction bark and wailing exhaust note, one of the few occasions where you get both in equal amounts and quality. The pumped-up styling is perfection, and the chassis tuning was from an era where the "Ultimate Driving Machine" tag line actually meant something. Make mine a DCT coupe in blue or red. The C63 would come next, purely for its engine. The interior is pretty bland these days, as is the styling. But I love how that massive V8 can rev all the way to 7200 rpm and sounds amazing doing it too. There is also something satisfying about "taming the beast". The RS4? I love how it looks, the interior, and that engine is pure honey. On a track, the inherent understeer would make it boring, but on a winding mountain road, I reckon it would be a winner.

Can't help myself, rewatching.................again...........................

Weird, I could see it earlier, but now it comes up with an error. It was a classic episode of Space 1999.

This forum does weird things like that.

I'm currently watching "Dragons Domain", probably THE signature episode of the entire Space 1999 series. The special effects are rudimentary by today's standards, but they were revolutionary for the time. For that reason, perhaps the horror-esq story line of this episode doesn't quite hit as hard as it did back then. Still, it gave me nightmares when I was watching it for the first time in.....................1999, I was 13 years old. Funny that.

I just started watching the final season of Stranger Things. Just got through episode 3 (I think).
I'm sure what to think about it yet. For some reason it seems to be somewhat disconnected from the last season, I can't put my finger on it. Maybe it's the 20-30yr olds playing high school kids. :)
The end of the last episode has my attention though.
Watching with my son, but he had a rough doctor appointment on Monday, so not letting him watch it for a few days.
Sucks because I'm being punished as well since I don't want to get ahead of him. :(

I remember critics giving this episode a bad review, but it's always been one of my favourites.

Meanwhile, I've always wanted one of those laser guns.
