I am looking for something new to try on my Challenger. I recently made my first forray into the canauba world with Meguiar's Gold Class and found that I like the carnauba look a lot better than the high gloss look I got from NXT or Ultimate Wax. I only have one real issue witth the Gold Class and that is the fact that it will stain trim. The Challenger has a lot of black plastic and that makes putting a fresh coat of wax on a time consuming affair since I end up spending more time prepping than applying the wax, letting it haze and wiping it off. I use a spray wax for a booster but still like to occasionally give it a fresh coat or 2. I've looked through some of the options and noticed that there are some that may not stain trim but don't list that as a product feature and I want to make sure I don't miss a viable candidate.

The car is garaged nightly and never driven in rain so water beading and durability are not necessarily a high priority. I do periodic correction, so the paint is in really good condiditon so shine, depth and ease of application are the priority. I have never used paste wax before but would not be opposed to trying it and will work by hand or machine depending on which way the wind blows that day.

I haven't used many different carnauba's, but I did just pick up some Chemical Guys XXX hardcore paste wax and used it last night. No staining on trim and it was really easy to work with and so far I like the look in the sun. High gloss and good depth.

I'm sure there are more, but I've used S100 and P21S and they do not stain trim.

Recently, I switched to Optimum Car Wax. It leaves a great shine and since it is a spray, I find as easy to use as a QD spray. I use it after ever wash.

Others have reported streaking issues with OCW, but I have not encountered any streaking issues even on black vehicles.

OCW does not stain trim. Actually, I use it on trim due to the UV protection of OCW.

Very few newer Nubas stain trim. BFMS, SSII, all the Dodos, CG XXX, 50/50, Petes 53, none of the Swisswax waxes I've tried. I'm sure there are plenty more.

Good call Dave. :dblthumb2:
Although I don't normally wax my trim, I will add that Colli 845 will not stain and is some of the best trim protection I have seen.... Im the MAN

P21S 100% PC is tough to beat and doesn't stain. Also, can be obtained locally at some BMW dealers. It's been my go to wax for years and I find it hard to spend money on anything else, I just want to try others out of curiosity.

Just don't wax the trim and you are set.:D

That's good advice. Slow down, focus on the task at hand and don't run your wax pad by hand or buffing pad by machine over black, plastic trim.

I did a test years ago with a number of products that claimed not to stain trim, M16 not only stained the trim but the stain remained till the car was sold. I probably have the pictures somewhere on an old hard drive.

I also tested Pinnacle Souveran and it did not stain the trim. Forget the rest of the product, might have included Klasse SG but it's been at least 7-8 years now...

Someone asked me why I like working on classics and hot rods more than new cars and this is one of the reasons... black, plastic trim. As compared to chrome and stainless steel trim on the classics...

Plus if you're careful, you can remove it unlike a lot of plastic trim on new cars...

I thought that was the way things were going, but wasn't 100% sure. I'm not very familiar with Dodo, which of there's would be recommended for a black metallic paint?

Thanks for the help everyone :xyxthumbs:

I haven't tried it, but a couple reviews here of Purple Haze. I've got it on my wish list to try on my Vista Blue Mustang.

Most Chemical Guys' waxes will not stain trim. And as stated above, you will probably see this as a trend with any of the newee products on the market.

I always found the ones with polishes or cleaners in them stained trim. The pure waxes don't seem to do so, like Pinnacle waxes.

OH, you are a funny guy Jim!! bad, bad, bad........

Before you get started, spend some time developing a plan of attack and what could possible go wrong.

Tape off those areas that are suspect, like those flat contrasting stripes, plastic trim, and anything that might catch your eye.

Using products that do not contain cleaners will help. Don't use 1-step products as they contain cleaners and polishes which will stain trim...

Carnauba waxes won't stain trim neither will clear sealants....

Thanks for the help everyone.

I am careful when I do it and tape off everything, but with as much as there is on this car, most of my details are at least have one polish step because by the time I clean the dressing off the trim with APC (so the tape will stick), tape, wax and reapply dressing, I might as well break out the ultimate polish because I've already invested a significant amount of time. I'd like to get to where I can put on a coat of wax when the correction isn't needed without having to go through all that.
