Hey I was just curious I need a new clay bar type of set and was wondering if the Mothers or Meguiar's kit were good enough? Looking on the store from the pro brands you have all these different grades of clay so I'm kind of wondering. I will be using a fallout remover first (Sonax) so I suppose a "OTC" kit will be fine after?

I’ve always liked the clay in the Meguiars kit. It’s certainly good enough.

I just noticed you’re getting rid of a CG claybar? Why not just keep it and use it?

Ehh, I wanted to sell everything in a kit so I just put everything CG for sale.

I had my mom buy a Meguiar's clay kit about a year ago so it's probably at her house still. I've used it once so there should be detailer left, if not soapy water should do the trick right?

Yea alot of people substitute soapy water.. If you have any rinseless wash concentrate it works even better.

I've always been happy with the Meguiars clay kit. The QD spray you get with it is still one of my favorites and I use it all the time.

I use soapy wash water when claying a vehicle and it works just fine and found it to actually works better than a QD spray.

If you want one of the best clay lubes on the market it's dodo juice born to be slippy concentrate.

If the paint don't have alot of contaminants on it and you want to clay with a minimal risk to get clay marring. The Sonüs SFX ultra fine detailing clay is a great choice.

Sonus SFX Ultra-Fine Detailing Clay, clay bars, auto clay, paint cleaning bar

If you have alot of contaminants on the paint and need a more aggressive clay bar Meguiars C2100 and 3M perfect it clay bars are great. Here with this the dodo juice born to be slippy concentrate really gets to work.

Meguiars Professional Detailing Clay Aggressive - C2100

3M Perfect-It III Cleaner Clay, 3m 38070, a paint-cleaning detailing clay that grabs foreign particles as it glides across the paint.

Then you have the clay alternatives too.

What is your soapy water mixture? Car wash soap or dish soap? And how much?

Should I even worry about clay marring if I'm going to polish or compound after? Clay marring means swirling right?

dont worry about the marring..since you are polishing after..just try with least aggressive method first meaning pads and polish..

Good to know about the Sonus clay. I bought some to use on coated cars. I don't know what's on it but Reset and Reset with some APC won't touch it. I'm thinking some kind of jet exhaust since we don't live far from the airport.

Clay marring appears as what looks like little cheetah marks on the paint, leaving it in sort of a dry hazy patch all over where it occurs. It looks far worse than it actually is... Its mainly just a chore to have to polish out, but it’s not like removing swirls in that it doesn’t require the same kind of aggression.

Yup. Any good polishing session after claying will take care of this.

I suppose you could use dish soap. But if it were me, I'd use something formulated for car paint, not pots and pans.;)

Yeah aha but I was wondering maybe dish soap would help strip stuff to make it as clean as possible?

Hi guys, I would never use dish soap on a cars paint. That was so pre 2000’s. Some might still use dawn ultra for stripping the paint but I don’t recommend it. There are better products out there like chemical guys red citrus, or adding some Adams strip-it to some Adams soap. This combo does a good job. Then use some carpro ironX before claying.

Ok thanks.

I bought the Sonax fallout remover instead of ironX.

If you are going to polish after the claying you take care of the clay marring easy. And with the fallout remover you help the clay to get the iron particals off the paint. I use a tar remover before claying too so the clay don't have to pick up the tar and tree sap and the rubber if those is present. You can use a medium or aggressive grade clay bar to get as clean as possible before polishing. That way you save on the pads you are useing to polish with. And minimize the risk that the pick up something that leaves micro marring when polishing. I would still use a clay lube of some sort and a waterless wash or rinseless wash concentrate that can be diluted in clay lube solution is a good choice to. Sure you can use a car soap too but the lubrication is not as high as clay lubes. It's unecessary to marring the paint more than necessary.
