Hello, this is my first post. Just purchased the Porter Cable 7424 with the 5'" backing plate and 5.5 pads. What color should I start with? I purchased the white, black, blue, and red. They also thru in 2 orange pads. My vehicles always have been done by hand, and are in very good condition. My first vehicle I will do is a 09 Subaru Forester Premium X. It has some minor swirl marks, but it is a deep red color. Any thoughts or suggestions would be greatly appreciated!! I have purchased earlier a Wolfgang kit including polish, sealant, and a paste wax. Thanks, and I look forward to your replies, Mark...

always start with a less aggressive pad and polish combo. You might achieve your goal while taking off less clearcoat. You didn't mentioned what polishes you have but for example start with a white polish pad and light/medium cut polish. Examine the results. If you still see swirls, switch to a clean white pad with more aggressive polish. Still see swirls? move up to the orange pad etc etc..

Welcome!

yeap, since dub kinda already told you the basic idea behind which one to start with, here is a handy little chart that you can use and refer too until you are a master at LC pads lol.

What kind of polish did you buy with your PC? If you got the XMT polishes, start off with the Orange pad and XMT #3 and follow it up with a White pad and XMT #1.

When you start, be patient and make sure the polish is fully broken down before wiping it off. When I first got my PC, I wasn't taking my time and was wiping the polish off too soon. If you haven't seen the Autogeek videos yet, I highly suggest you do.

He did say Wolfgang. Why are you recommending using an orange pad with XMT 3? Why not a white pad and XMT 2 first? Then move up if necessary. BTW he's probably done by now.Im the MAN
