What did you do today non-detailing related?

I had the shredder out the other day to process the material removed from two large Buddleja plants, which I prune heavily once a year. You have to pick your mark with this thing, try to shred material that's too wet and all you do is create a headache. That tends to rule out a lot of stuff removed from this garden. Rose pruning's are not nice to feed through it either. It's also time consuming, although you do get free mulch from it at the end.

The shredder in question is a Yardeco Recycler 2000 fitted with the 5hp Honda GX 160 engine. These are Australian designed and engineered and were available with Briggs & Stratton or Honda engines, thankfully, the owner went with the Honda engine (I hate Honda machines but like their commercial engines). It would appear the Yardeco brand no longer makes shredders, but still offers garden scratchers (tillers), powered wheelbarrows, and log splitters.

However, it would appear that the same machines are now branded TruYard, even the promotional video is the same. The Briggs engines have made way for crappy Krohler's, and the Honda engines upped to the GX 200.

After using it the other day, I figured the engine has never been serviced since it was bought at least a decade ago. Not that it's been run constantly over that period, even so, it's probably well overdue for an oil change.

Because of the size, weight and awkwardness of the machine, draining the old oil is not easy. To get around that, I used my small Briggs & Stratton oil extractor. A B&S tool used to service a Honda!

https://powermowers.com.au/products...VZkF0ArlhFkFGGFCeYFI7vKWNFfofv1XlVlmaN3aLfVnb

The old oil wasn't too bad, a dark gold-brown, but well worth refreshing. I refilled with Penrite Small Engine 10w30, which is semi-synthetic. From what I can see, the Honda-branded oil offered in Australia is a mineral based 10w30, although there is a synthetic 5w30 offered overseas.

I also replaced the original spark plug, an NGK BPR6ES.

Honda makes three different air filter types for these engines. The first two are conventional, either a low-profile foam sock, or an oval paper cartridge with a foam pre-filter. On this particular GX 160, it has the third type, an oil bath filter. I've never worked on an engine with a filter like this, a design I thought was confined to the early days of small engines, but clearly not.

In conjunction with a conventional oiled foam filter, the idea here is to trap debris in the oil reservoir. Over time, that oil becomes loaded with dust and debris and needs to be drained and refreshed. On this occasion, I drained the oil, then cleaned out the reservoir with Surfex and water, then left to dry in the sun while I finished elsewhere. The foam element was blown out and re-oiled. Once dry, the reservoir was refilled using the same Penrite oil that went in the engine.

I have to say, this is an unnecessarily complicated and messy filtration system. You can't just install a new filter and be done with it, as such I'd much prefer the standard dual-element paper/foam type.

Because of the infrequent use, I have no idea how old the fuel in the tank was. While the engine (eventually) started and ran fine earlier in the week, the exhaust gas smelt stale. After use, I actually shut off the fuel and let the engine run dry. So, the final step today was to drain and discard the fuel left in the tank. I also have no idea when I'll use this machine again, so leaving the fuel any longer wouldn't do the engine any good.

My last job of the day and I just couldn't resist taking a photo of a couple of favorites in full bloom at the moment.

The first sits at the entrance to the property, standing proud above the fence, Magnolia Soulangeana.

This property is in an older area of town, clearly this small slow growing tree was a popular choice in the 50's and 60's. Nearly every second home in this area has one of these Magnolia's in the front garden, much like everyone planting Magnolia Little Gem, Pyrus Ussuriensis or Maple Autumn Blaze today. The reality is, these old-fashioned Magnolia's would be considered too slow growing and too messy for people these days. Sad really.

And of course, it wouldn't be late winter without Camellia Japonica's in flower. This variety is most likely 'Emperor of Russia Variegated'. These variegated varieties have always fascinated me, they have so much variance from flower to flower that no bloom is identical. As you can see below, the amount of white variation is different for each bloom, while some will show off yellow stamin more than others.

Again, this is an older and well-established plant that is such a treat to see in flower. And because there are literally 1000's of buds on the plant, the display will carry on well into spring.

Mowed the lawns and my neighbours, Got some food for his cow named Jojo because his had hand surgery.

His Navara is like a water bed on wheels so sloppy to steer.

Next 7 day's rain and winds....😟

Not sure of this will work or not but here goes

My wife sent me the link, just hit the X on the log in page

The beaches at Valdez Alaska following a record run of Red salmon

I can smell that through the screen...🤮

Tastes like chicken...

Or Goanna...
Speaking of, I took this back in 2011, recently found it in my Google photos. I was wandering around an old whaling station on the south coast and this woman says look out for the big lizard on the other side of the tree, I was looking on the ground for a couple of minutes before I saw this beauty eyeing me off from head height on the damn tree. They are commonly called tree goannas, now I know why.PSX_20250826_213252.jpgPSX_20250826_213140.jpg

We sold our 2016 Mustang Ecoboost today to a lady that I know isn't going to take care of it. After she paid me and was fixing to drive off, she said her 19 year old son will love it and hopefully he doesn't wreck it like he did his past 3 vehicles.
Oh well. Tomorrow I go pick up her 2025 Mustang GT in DFB's favorite color... black 🤣

Long post incoming..

We had been looking for a Mustang since ww posted ours for sale and could never find one... they were all on a stop sale due to a recall. My wife finds one 300 miles away that's not on a stop sale.. so I call the dealership up to verify and the guy says its not on a stop sale so its good to go. I asked him to make sure its good to sell and he once again tells me its good to go. So I tell him I want to do a credit app and get the process started but I only want my credit ran through Ford since I'm a tier 1 member. He says that's not a problem and I get started.
So I get a call a little later from him saying that the car has to be QC'd by service to make sure the recall work was done to it and it won't be until late next week until they do that.... WellI thought the car was good to go???? If I had known that I wouldn't have let them run my credit.. so then he tells me that he can dealer trade for the same exact car that can be sold.. so I tell him go ahead and get it and I'll be there the next day to get it.
Next day I go get a car hauler trailer and head that way.. get a call from the guy and he says the car is there but the windows aren't tinted and isn't PPF'd like the one he had so we would discuss what to do with it when I get there. I drive the 300 miles to get down there, and meet the salesman then he hands me off to the sales manager. I look the car over and its got swirls everywhere.. nothing bad, just real light ones.
My wife test drives and it says she loves it... so we go inside and there's a bunch of desks right out in the open. No cubicles or anything. That's odd. Start walking in and some lady asks me if that's my red F350 outside and I said yes.. she said she has one just like it but its gas instead of diesel, then wants me to high five her.. okay.. high five and then she tries to hold my hand.. really.. WTF? So after that awkward interaction I sit down at the dealership table and start negotiating prices. Since the car doesn't have the windows tinted and PPF, they're taking that out of the price but I still get the lifetime power train warranty for free, which was in the original package.. okay by me..
So I sign the paper for them to submit the offer to Ford and the salesman walks off.. while he's gone I get a phone call from a bank asking if I'm there trying to get a car loan.. why is a bank calling me when I specifically told them to only run it through Ford? Thebl guy comes back and I ask him about it and he says he doesn't know.. maybe to get me a lower interest rate.. well buddy I'm tier 1 ford customer. I don't want another bank.
So the finance guy comes over and says that he's got me approved through Ford and another bank.. both banks have the same interest rate and payments.. I feel my blood pressure start going up and I tell the guy he was only supposed to run my credit through Ford and no where else. His reply was he was trying to get me a lower interest rate..
Had this car not been for my wife and she not loved it, I would have gave those guys down the road and told them where to shove their mustang.. instead I told the guy that I will be getting ahold of Fords customer service and reporting what he did.. so he said he'd be right back.. he came back about 5 minutes later and said that he can knock $3500 extra off since he messed up. So that knocked off $50 a month from the payment.
We go back to a room where they sign contracts and everything looks good.. he's being super friendly through the whole process.. then comes the warranty up sell time.. I told him I don't want any of it.. its got a lifetime power train warranty.. he tries to get me with the electrical components and I told him if the electrical stuff went out on it then I would bring it back to them and light it on fire in their parking lot... jokingly of course.. but I won't be needing any extra warranty stuff.. that's where his demeanor changed and he started being short and pissy. Like I care.. I'll never see these morons again.
We get outside and the salesman helps me load my car on my trailer, crooked, almost scraping the black rims on the rails of the trailer... then he has the audacity to ask me to leave a 5 star review... I told him I'll definitely be leaving a review... I left out that he was foul mouthed and swearing a lot.. looks real professional...

So after getting up at 7 am, getting the car hauler rented and picked up, driving 600 total miles with 3 hours at the dealership and getting home at 130 am.. here's my new 2025 Mustang GT with 301a options package and active exhaust. If I had to go through that every time I bought a vehicle, I wouldn't ever buy one again.

I got what was supposed to be about a 6 hour window in the weather so I got the grass trimmed, cut, and cleaned up

The window turned out to be not quite 3 hours but I got it all done

The grass is already starting to turn

Be sure to review accordingly. When negative customer reviews accumulate, dealers loose significant financial incentives, which is why they were hounding you for a 5-star review. At the end of the day, no business or salesman is perfect, and unfortunately, it taints the buying process. Sadly, even with a review and performance evaluation system in place, this clearly isn't enough incentive for dealers.

Yeah, but do you have to walk through the waiting room to the toilet with the specimen bottle, coax yourself to fill it, and then everyone in the waiting room tries to avoid eye contact when you walk back through with your weirdly warm container.

It's a lot different than our 2016 ecoboost. I really like it except for how touchy the steering is.. but I think I'll really enjoy it

What a messy process at the dealer, but I’m amazed at the money they took off for the credit issue. I did not see that coming!

Nice looking car, I’m sure you’ll get those swirls cleared up no problem. I really like the new mustangs!
