So what is sfa?
Used in the context it was i assume it is some kind on on the spot/ roadside vehicle safety check.
Here in PA we have a mandatory once a year vehicle inspection. Some vehicle owners need that once a year safety inspection as they NEVER do any type of vehicle maintenance.
Had a guy at work ( Ohio) that drove his jeep till the steel backing plates ( brake pads completely gone) wore through the rotors and were rubbing against the cooling fins of what remained of the brake rotors. When alerted to what he had done his only comment was “ i was wondering what that odd noise was”.

This is what the google AI told me:

"Sweet Fanny Adams" is a British slang term that has evolved to mean "nothing at all" or "the slightest thing". It originated from the infamous 1867 murder of a 13-year-old girl named Fanny Adams, whose body was found in pieces, leading to the name becoming a symbol for something worthless or ruined. The term was later adopted by the military, where "Fanny Adams" referred to a tin of stew or preserved meat, and by extension, anything of poor quality.
Origin: The slang term is rooted in the brutal murder of Fanny Adams in 1867, whose mutilated body was discovered in a sea chest.
Evolution of meaning: Over time, the name "Fanny Adams" became associated with the scraps and meager portions of the preserved mutton that was part of the sailor's diet, and by extension, with anything worthless or of poor quality.
Modern usage: The term is used to describe nothing at all. For example, one might say they got "sweet Fanny Adams" for their efforts, meaning they received nothing.

I 'fixed' my cordless snowblower.
It's a Snow Joe 48V single stage brushless motor, just a little guy for our sidewalk and garage apron and it works well for that, well, it did.
Near the end of last year, it stopped working. Everything was dead (auger, light, electric chute).
This is the 3rd one of these I got. Previous 2 were replaced under warranty.
First one died after 1 swipe across the garage, the 2nd one almost finished everything and it died. This one has lasted about 3 years.

I figured I'd try to fix it rather than buying another one.
I pulled the back cover off and plugged 1 battery in (2x @ 24V each) with the plan to start diagnosing and it started smoking. YIKES!
Yanked the battery out and found that one of the wires was melted.
I believe that wire was burnt before and it was an open circuit. When I pulled the cover off, the wires touched and completed the circuit again.

Anyway, I eventually found out that the auger motor controller was shorted out internally.

I got a cheap controller and throttle for an ebike (like $60 total).
Got it all hooked up and it works again.
The only thing I'm not sure of is the rpm of the auger.
The controller cuts out when the motor hits high rpm, which I found out is likely just the controller cannot handle the rpm.
I can control the auger speed with the throttle, so I can get it just below that cut-off rpm and it runs fine.
I think it's spinning about as fast as it did when it was new, but I'm only going off my 'calibrated' ears.
We'll see how it does in the snow, if we ever get enough to snow blow again. Storms have been going north and south of us so far.

Would have been cool to run that auger at Mach 7 and launch the snow into the next city, but probably not a good idea.

I've got two questions--any idea how the wire got burned initially? Or was that an overload after the controller shorted out?

And are parts available, I mean did you use the ebike controller because you can't get the "real" parts? Or were they prohibitively expensive?

I believe water got inside the controller and shorted it out, which caused one of the power wires to melt, no fuse protection.
The factory controller was not water tight and while I'm not an electronics expert, the board looked like it had some bad traces on it.
When I disconnected the controller and replaced the burnt wire, I was able to connect the batteries and work the light and the chute motors.

As for parts, replacement parts are not available, at least not new from the company. I did a quick search if there were any used components on Ebay, but nothing came up.

Hm...interesting. Good for you for figuring out how to jury-rig it with a different controller.

Did the "Christmas Mow" as DFB would say, here and next door.

I'm lucky because the people doing the work on the house left the cellar door unlocked.

WORK.............what work no wonder they said 6 months 😬

Just finished the Christmas mowing run. Buggered!

My main customer has me looking after 8 different properties, today I did 5 of them. Of those 5 lawns, 4 are adjoining properties, so it takes me about 3.5 hours to cycle through them. And that's push mowing, no ride-on here.

I was using a push mower yesterday and today a self-propelled one.

My brothers and his wife's 2024 T-ROC 15,000km 210kw 400nm
0-60 mph sub 5 seconds.

Getting ceramic coated on January 5th.

Very nice, I see a Touareg R in the same colour occasionally on my walks, it's certainly an attention getter.

My nephew took his Polestar 2 to get ceramic coated and tinted on Tuesday. The coating was something called Elite X, which is claimed to be graphene infused. He doesn't know the cost as it's been included in the lease.

And for reference it does 0-100(62mph) in 4.2 seconds, with 2 on board, 1 a bit heavy too.

Nice! Yeah they were looking at a Touareg R in the same colour but a little out of their price range.

They traded their mint 2021 Mazda CX-5 GT Turbo 17,000km for $33,000
I was thinking about buying it but I don't do leather seats and sunroofs.

The dealership has $39,990 on it.

Had the bearings replaced in the electric dryer Tuesday. It was squealing like a pig. Put new batteries in the Mr. beams security motion lights.

Went for a walk with my brother and sister in law we saw a platypus,
A baby blue tongue lizard about 4 inches long i picked him up off the bike path. And a baby butcher bird i helped it back onto a tree only for mum and dad to attack us nearly.

They swoop and have a very pointed beak to stab other birds.

And the T-ROC is a pocket rocket 👍
