What did you do today non-detailing related?

Took the grandkids to a place called Sauder Village...everything is based to preserve history from the 1800's to around 1920.
Took this pic of the old car in front of old bank and gas station....they had a whole mock town for that time era.
Converted pic to sepia tone to give the look of the timeline

Had my new to me mb aligned yesterday. The overall alignment specifications were close but they were able to tweak toe adjustments in the front and rear to get me in the green.
Looks/sounds like a good shop. My trusted shop for the last 30 years closed up, still haven't found a replacement. I won't even ask about yours because any place with cacti outside the shop isn't anywhere near NJ.

I used to go to a tyre shop back in the 90s where the alignment tech would let me in the workshop, ask me if the steering wheel wasn't straight, then he'd show me what was out and explain as he was fixing it what adjustments he was making. Then they got a new guy who didn't do any of that, and when I asked what was out of alignment and what adjustments he did, he just said it was out, I fixed it, and turned and walked away. I never went back, stopped going there for my tyres as well. Since getting the FJ I'm not buying tyres nearly as often anyway.

The place I used to go to you had to make an appointment for an alignment, they were 45 mins long. As msharpe was alluding to, this shop figured you were paying for the 45 mins (although sometimes it would take longer, it's not like they said "sorry, your 45 mins are up!"), so even if the alignment was in the acceptable range, they would tweak it to the middle of the range. And you always knew the steering wheel would be straight, because they would make sure.

And of course one of the key things is they had one guy who spent most of his day doing alignments, so he was doing 6 or 8 or 10 alignments every day, and a half day on Saturday...so he was really good at it.

20C light winds so we burnt 🔥 off the pile of miscellaneous tree branches and logs.

The key to a successful burn off is too not smoke out the whole neighbourhood and make sure what you're burning is dry.

Keep that flame hot and also have a hose handy just in case.

This is not a hard process but other people seem to really get this wrong.

That kind of thing has been illegal here in the US since the Clean Air Act of 1966. People used to rake their leaves to the curb and burn them...and I imagine a few of them set their dry lawn on fire and burned down their houses also. I've always lived in a more suburban setting so it may have been different in the more rural areas.

Air pollution seems to be making a comeback here, so maybe soon we'll all be burning our leaves again.

Air pollution in America.....Surely not with those dirty stacked piped diesel trucks, and big V8

Well, I don't know all the details, but they just relaxed the emissions regulations here for coal and NG power plants. It may be that they just canceled something that hadn't gone into effect yet (rather than actually allowing more emissions than there are now).

Funny when I first came to detailing forums 20+ years ago, there was a lot of talk about acid rain damage here in the NE US, which we were told was from the coal-burning power plants west of us, but since most of the coal plants were phased out, there's no talk of acid rain anymore.

Whatchu mean illegal? I burn all the time. Summertime has a burn ban but other than that we are good to go.

Maybe it's just here in NJ, I remember my brother or my parents telling me it became illegal to burn the leaves at the curb like that. I was a pyromaniac when I was a teenager so I'm sure I would have been burning leaves if it was something anybody did anymore. Me and my friend burned up a toy or model car in the driveway with lighter fluid, the melted plastic is still there.

In rural areas here, you can burn except when there a burn ban due to drougt.

We did the same with model cars after the fireworks ran dry. A little gasoline for fun. I still am a pyromaniac. Two wood stoves in the house. I even cook in them.

This is making s'mores using the IR heat through the glass.

Watering our newly seeded yard. All the quick connects really speed up the process. The lesson Iearned is to always use a wrech to tighten connections to prevent leaks.

Every night when I walk the dogs I do a bit of amatuer astronomy, basically looking at the sky while I'm walking. I've been watching Venus in the western sky, just after sunset, climbing a little higher each night, passing Spica over the last few weeks, Spica is the brightest object in Virgo, but isn't a single star, it's a triple system, about 250 light years away, it contains a blue giant, so has a faint blue tinge to it. As I walked tonight, I saw Venus and Spica, and something below them, just above the horizon, I had to use my Astro app, it's Mercury, conditions were just right. I only had my phone with me but still managed to catch it. Venus is the brightest object at the top, Mercury is the one down near the orange glow, and Spica the dim one barely visible unless you zoom a little. Sorry for the longish post, but seeing Mercury is cool.
