A few years ago, The Rag Company began distributing, marketing and selling the Diamond Protech brand. A Swiss company, Diamond ProTech manufacture “nanodiamond” coatings for paint, glass, wheels, leather and interior surfaces. Much was made of the easy single layer application, fast cure times, extreme self-cleaning and dust repellency. The nanodiamond formula was touted as the next big thing in vehicle surface protection.

With such a prominent position in the detailing world, you’d think the TRC exposure would have ensured success for Diamond ProTech. And yet, that didn’t really happen. And it wasn’t from a lack of trying, as well all know, The Rag Company go hard when it comes to highlighting products and tools……………………. they’ve earned “The Hype Company” name for a reason. To be clear, I’m not having a go at TRC here. Some seem to forget that their social media and Youtube content is created purely to highlight the products they sell, not entirely for your entertainment. That’s business, it’s called advertising.

None of that explains why Diamond ProTech failed to take off. I personally haven’t used any of their products, although I was intrigued. Talking with one of the Australian retailers, I was told the initial sales of Diamond ProTech proved very promising. And yet, he went on to say that sales ground to a halt and never rebound. After a quick check this week, he has dropped the brand from the store. Also, the official Australian distributor of The Rag Company has Diamond ProTech on clearance, as does other retailers. Go looking for the brand on the TRC store and you’ll note it’s been cleared out, nor do they mention Diamond ProTech on the podcast anymore.

Going off my insider’s observations, a lack of repeat buyers says it all. From what I’ve seen and heard, it would appear these coatings were not what they were claimed to be. The lack of longevity, issues caused by not using their very specific prep products, high prices and supply constraints appear to have killed the brand. And I would dare say it was costly to import and distribute from its European location. The final nail in the coffin being the release of Carpro nanodiamond coatings.

He's no longer wrestling. He's now teaching yoga and is a motivational coach of sorts.
Always like that guy

Something that I consider when evaluating the claims/content in a detailing products video is the following. Do they have something they are attempting to sell? Not saying some are prone to lieing but certainly are willing to bend the truth.

Um...did I miss something?

Isn't this the company that did some sort of industrial coatings? Maybe they just misjudged the detailing market.

Isn't everybody trying to sell something on YouTube? Even the people who seem not to be selling something? They are selling views if nothing else.

I tried their spray coating, Quick Body, and found it extremely underwhelming. The added gloss was nice ,but the hydrophobics and self cleaning were minimal. Be it application error or it not playing nice with the 22PLE coating I had on my car I never used it again.

I tried all of their products and the only product that stood out to me is their interior coating. The ability to darken up the interior is a nice feature. Probably their best product in the entire line.

Other than that I was underwhelmed by everything else considering the ease of application from their coatings. Although the paint coatings have that quicker release time, they cure slower that typical coatings. About two weeks. So the hydrophobics may look weak if one washes it in the first week. I heard feedback that the coatings do clog easy in harsher conditions. Their DB36 coating is not the most hydrophobic and has similar behavior to GTechniq CSL. Their DB coating is the hydrophobic coating.

The glass coating was not great. It needed high speeds for it to repel water and I found myself using the wipers more often at lower speeds which seemed counterintuitive as wiper abrasion will wear it out faster.

The wheel coating is ok. Nothing stood out to me with it other than the ease of application. There are better wheel coatings.

DPT did send me their maintenance line and it is ok. The QD is essentially a topper and not a traditional QD a it is more of a mini sealant. Not the easiest to use either which was the primary feedback I had for them.

They were very well marketed by TRC but that died off fairly quickly. It seemed like Levi was the only one really pushing for the brand and he left TRC awhile ago.

The guys at DPT are great to deal with though.

Well not really sure how it works and I don't really care how it works but most probably get some sort of payment if they reach X number of views/subscribers/ whatever but I'll bet its not all that much and they do have expenses in recording and posting videos. Don't think they are getting rich and may only be breaking even.
I was referring to those that are selling products or have a link to a business that sells products.

I noticed that as well. Actually, he was very pro-Stjarnagloss too, and that's another failed venture for TRC. I tried a few Stjarnagloss products, and like WoWo's, found them very underwhelming.

The lack of supporting products from Diamond ProTech no doubt contributed to the downfall.

Just a guess. DDP= Diamond Detail Products
