A few years ago, The Rag Company began distributing, marketing and selling the Diamond Protech brand. A Swiss company, Diamond ProTech manufacture “nanodiamond” coatings for paint, glass, wheels, leather and interior surfaces. Much was made of the easy single layer application, fast cure times, extreme self-cleaning and dust repellency. The nanodiamond formula was touted as the next big thing in vehicle surface protection.

With such a prominent position in the detailing world, you’d think the TRC exposure would have ensured success for Diamond ProTech. And yet, that didn’t really happen. And it wasn’t from a lack of trying, as well all know, The Rag Company go hard when it comes to highlighting products and tools……………………. they’ve earned “The Hype Company” name for a reason. To be clear, I’m not having a go at TRC here. Some seem to forget that their social media and Youtube content is created purely to highlight the products they sell, not entirely for your entertainment. That’s business, it’s called advertising.
None of that explains why Diamond ProTech failed to take off. I personally haven’t used any of their products, although I was intrigued. Talking with one of the Australian retailers, I was told the initial sales of Diamond ProTech proved very promising. And yet, he went on to say that sales ground to a halt and never rebound. After a quick check this week, he has dropped the brand from the store. Also, the official Australian distributor of The Rag Company has Diamond ProTech on clearance, as does other retailers. Go looking for the brand on the TRC store and you’ll note it’s been cleared out, nor do they mention Diamond ProTech on the podcast anymore.

Going off my insider’s observations, a lack of repeat buyers says it all. From what I’ve seen and heard, it would appear these coatings were not what they were claimed to be. The lack of longevity, issues caused by not using their very specific prep products, high prices and supply constraints appear to have killed the brand. And I would dare say it was costly to import and distribute from its European location. The final nail in the coffin being the release of Carpro nanodiamond coatings.
