What is everyone using to reapply badges?

I would suggest polishing around them if possible rather then removing.

Does that gel work as good or better than the 3M double sided tape? I’m going to be replacing a couple of emblems on my car soon.

I don't know...I've used it to resecure trim that has popped up when the factory glue dried out, I'm talking about metal trim around windows...not sure if I actually used it on a badge or not...it's kind of like Duco if you know what that is (do they even make that anymore?). You've got to cut/trim the doublestick, right? If that works for you, use that, with the liquid adhesive you have to worry about some oozing out, if it stays straight while it's setting, etc.

This is what I’ve been using. It does work. I was just wondering what everyone else is using. I’m happy with the 3M.
I’m not a big fan of the tape for badges and emblems. I’ve always used the tape for trim.

They have some gel cyanoacrylate adhesive at Home Depot that would probably be great for this...although not if you want to take them off again.

I think I might go with badges that already come with the 3M tape pre applied to them vs. badges that I’ll have to provide my own adhesive.. For 1, they’ll be brand new 2. I won’t have to worry about cleaning the old adhesive from them and putting on new adhesive.

Sorry to the moderators ahead of time for the outside link, but this is the absolute best bet- you can also itemize and charge for it: Adhesive Templates

I might try them out for one. The 3M is a lot cheaper option though. It would be easier and quicker. I’ll give them a shot and just add it to the pricing

That site is ridiculous... They want $18 for an adhesive sticker for the Cadillac emblem, and another $18 to use on the wreath that goes around the emblem... Not to mention I’d need 2 sets of them, bringing the grand total to a whopping $72 dollars for 4 stickers! They outta be charged with attempted robbery! Lol. Who would pay that?!

On the other hand, I can get 2 sets of brand new zinc metal chrome Cadillac emblems including the wreaths, including the same exact 3M double sided adhesive tape for only $10 bucks total [both sets, not each] including shipping.

That’s just crazy...

Read the fine print. They use the same exact 3M automotive double sided tape. They just have a machine that provides the perfect cut.

I seen that. That is crazy. That site did give me the idea of just buying the 3M tape in sheets. Instead of the rolls. You can get up to 12”x12” sheets pretty cheap. Just trace out your emblem and your good to go.

I thought for sure that price included the emblem as well. That is absolutely ridiculous...

Tracing is the easy part champ. Cutting it is where you’ll pull your hair out.

You’ll notice too that the adhesive doesn’t follow the exact shape of the badge, it’s sometimes modified so there’s no peek.

If you’re savvy with CAD or vector art, get yourself a cheap laser cutter or plotter for the same price and DIY.

Not a good idea to try to get anything to 'stick' to a polished surface.

That's why you hit it with ipa before applying the emblem.

Me personally, I wouldn't be removing any customers emblems to polish, there's no reason for it or the risk of complications. My validation is I don't see Mike Phillips removing badges on his detailing postings on a regular basis.

Remove emblem, polish, remove polish with ipa, install emblem. What's the point?
