Hello,

My dad bought a new Cadillac and had the dealer, after I told him no a million times, put on a coating. The name of it is called
Zurich Shield. Does anyone know who makes this?

Thanks

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

When I bought my Red Rock Metallic 1LT/RS a month ago I was given a pretty hard sell on purchasing the Zurich Paint Shield. I'm normally not gullible to these kinds of things but it was a slick presentation, complete with video, and I was told the car would never need waxing. I am embarrassed to admit it, but I fell for it and forked over the $800+ for the exterior and interior protection package.

Fast forward one month. I have washed the car a few times, by hand and in a touchless car wash. It has been cold here and doing it by hand is kind if difficult. It has always been dried with a new microfiber towel. Yesterday I noticed that there were what appeared to be scratches in the finish. They were not in the paint, but rather what looked like swirl marks in the teflon coating. Imagine an oil-like finish that didn't dry. It's like the coating is just getting smeared around. Needless to say, the car looks awful and I am not happy about it.

So this morning I wrote a scathing email to Zurich. Told them their product was junk, poorly applied, and not worth what it cost. Their reply was that they are "sorry for the inconvenience" and will talk to the dealer to resolve the issue.

At this point I am ready to cut my losses and have a professional detail shop take care of this; someone I know and someone I trust. Even though Zurich has offered to fix it I am very hesitant to have it redone, especially if it's the same idiots doing it. I don't trust it would be any better.

Do I take it to my guy to get it looking like it's supposed to or go through the BS of dealing with the Zurich crap again?

Walk away...
Spend your time and money on a coating of your choice and maintain correctly...
If you go back you'll be equally pissed off in 6 months...

I've never heard of it. Try google?

Dealer gave me a Zurich gift pack after purchasing my last Acura, labels peeling so probably could not sell but appreciated it anyway. Lots of goodies car wash some kind of QD, APC, glass cleaner, interior cleaner etc. Smell kind of reminded me of Einszett but the performance was not as good. Ended up giving away or dumping all but the glass cleaner.

Interesting, just googled and the home page for Zurich has a link for claims. Complete with forms warranty FAQ's and instructions on how to file a claim online, makes a guy wonder.

Zurich Shield.
Does anyone know who makes this?
FWIW:
Here's some information on their
windshield protection product's
manufacturer
.

Zurich Windshield Coverage
-Provides windshield repair due to road
hazard, including OEM replacement,
if necessary.

Zurich Shield(R) Windshield Protection is
manufactured by
DFI Inc.,
an innovator in protective coatings for glass.

-How does it work?

Their patented nanotechnology,
Diamon-Fusion(R), improves and protects
the surface of your windshield by molecularly
fusing with glass to form a hydrophobic (water
repellant) barrier, applied in a two step process:

Step 1:
A chemical fills in the microscopic peaks and valleys

Step 2:
The bonding substrate is then capped and sealed,
enhancing surface smoothness

-As a result, there are far less peaks and
valleys to catch road debris, distort vision,
and create glare. The glass becomes much
smoother, resulting in a clearer and stronger
windshield.

So funny! And it's offered in DEALERSHIPS! How fitting. Just get some Gyeon Quarts or something and do it yourself.

Last time I checked , glass is already hydrophobic.. At least beer seems to come out of a bottle easily enough... What a load of twotwaffle

Wait whenever they say "clearer stronger glass" as if putting something on glass will make it more clear? Or does it mean it keeps stuff off to keep it more clear? I'll put it on my iPad screen and it will be even more clear than it is...

Zurich Shield is a dealer warranty program. They base these sales off the same logic that major insurance companies do. That logic is a numbers game. For every 300 only 2 people file a claim against it. You do the math and figure out for all those people that buy into it, they are making a ton of money. I also believe that there are stipulations on the buyers part to come in and get check ups. If you miss said check ups, the warranty goes away.

It's a racket, but it's easy to sale someone when they are sitting there and it only adds a couple of dollars, if that to their payment each month.

People are extremely vulnerable when they're sitting at that desk buying a brand new car. You go in there with the intention of adding on a couple of cool things you've always wanted, such as real leather seats, fog lamps, etc.. But before you know it you're spending thousands more on a bunch of crap you never even knew about. Lol.

And that's where they get you.

Its a joke coating they sell to you for alot of money.
Lets say a "full" job with a coating from an AGer here is 800 dollars.

A dealer would sell you the "shield" cough something else explicit for 800 dollars when its only worth maybe 100. Yes, that is capitalism but its way over valuing it. Keep in mind its a dealer and they are probably not prepping or cleaning it before and saying you dont ever need to maintain your paint again.

I think the dealer probably had the car for three hours.

The coating will be as useful as the dealership detailers who applied it. Seeing as how I haven't been to a dealership where the detailers know why you shouldn't wipe down rims and then use the same towel to dry your paint, take that as you will. It's just another easy up sell they add on to fill their own bonuses.
