Hello everyone,

My car has a "weird" red color which sometimes look orangish (sometimes a lot) and I don't like that.
Probably is the same color which the GM use on Camaro too.
"Red Hot" color is red in lower light but orange in direct sunlight. Very coo...

What product should I choose for a deeper and darker effect to cut of a bit the orange look?

PS: Few months ago I did a full paint restoration with the following products:

  • Meguiar's Clay Bar
  • 3M Perfect-It III Fast Cut Plus
  • Meguiar's Ultimate Compound
  • Meguiar's Ultimate Polish
  • Meguiar's Ultimate Liquid Wax

Thank for your time everyone!

Cut the orange color out? I don't think that any polishing will darken the orange. Polishing will probably enhance that orange-ish look in direct sunlight as the surface will be clearer and smoother. You are going to have to rely on the LSP to darken that look. Prima Amigo is an acrylic glaze that will darken a bit. The glazes & waxes designed for dark colors may help. I can't remember what Meguiar's Ultimate Liquid Wax does to the paint (been a long time since using it)

Well, I mean to make it less visible, less orangish. English is not my native language so... maybe it was not a proper wording.

Btw. I have the following image (in crappy quality :( ). If I remember correctly the left side was with Meguiar's Ultimate Polish and the other without it. Or the opposite.

I was thinking to use Sonax Polish & Wax COLOR Nano Pro, the red One but I don't know anyone to have use that product line to tell me if it's good or not.

Polishing isn't going to darken the paint. It will only make the clear coat optically clearer and more glossy, which will allow the colored paint more visible.

When you see images here and other forums and a polished area looks darker than the non-polished area that is only because the scratches and swirls make the clear coat hazy. There is no color change. Some waxes, sealants, or coatings might *slightly* darken color, but probably not like what you want.

CG Blacklight is marketed as a dark color glaze/sealant

This polish gets alot of flak for supposedly not being any good on clearcoat...

But I've had some very good results with it in regards to it darkening paint. Look at the top half of my hood vs. the bottom half after using #7 with a Blue Finessing Pad on my DA.

I recommend using the softest pad you've got and taking your time. Work your polisher on speed. 3-4 not too fast and don't work in direct sunlight or it'll be murder to wipe off. Make sure you're using proper short nap microfiber towels to wipe this polish off, none of those fluffy plush towels because they're not going to work for this.

I once polished my paint 5 times back to back with this stuff and the paint got darker with each time.

I even did a 50/50 on my trunk which is light metalic green and I could see the difference in darkening effect and it lasted about 2 months after I sealed the paint. For at least 2 months I could clearly see the tape line and the difference from each side.

The following image is a great example what the color looks like when look orangish which at that image doesn't look too bad.

Probably it's an "effect" of the color and I can't do much. Cool effect though.
I will accept it and go on :p

I do not expect the color to change so much in different lighting and was driving me crazy. I though there something sitting on the paint or something like that.
So... I should use a polish / wax etc for dark colors, right?

I wish it was the following color but...

PS: I mean to look darker, deeper, of course there no way to make it darker / deeper.

I say embrace it and try to enhance the color changing effect as much as possible. See how much you can get the orange metallic flake to pop and create a nice sunburst effect.

This is an old picture, but the above picture is when I bought it and the lower picture is after a Blackfire polish and Blackfire sealant. It made the blue appear darker and a lot more reflective. Also used the same products on my Dad's Brown Genesis and it made it appear darker as well.

Here (in Greece, Crete) almost all the time is sunny so it pop almost all the time in direct sunlight or the night above the yellow street lights.
I love how it looks when it's sunny and the car is sitting at a shady place.

I will try a polish / glaze etc which designed for dark colors but who knows how much it will take to arrive. There not a lot options available here.
