I have some rims with thousands of little micro dots everywhere. Is it possible to take them off? You can't feel them, they look like someone sprayed something into them.

What product can take them off?

Ignore the water spots.

clay first, it that doesnt work then use some 0000 like mopar said...u can probably get those fine scratches out with 105 too.

Told my gf if she could bring me a chrome polish from autozone on her way home and brought me Mother's Chrome Polish but didn't do anything. You can feel the dots slightly with your nails. Will steel wool do it? The rims also have like a dirty brown look shine that i can't take off.

I have a porter cable 7424 so maybe there is something i can use with that? Though it doesn't reach those small areas.

Maybe the Finish Kare Decon System and an aggressive clay.

Where are you located because there are professionals on here from all over the country who you might be able to help you out if you are nearby.

Well, would that work? I need something that is ruff but won't damage the rims. The wool will give fine scratches on the rims? And then i take them off with a polish?

Edit:

I'm located by Los Angeles. I also wanted to find out about them because my car stayed parked for almost 1 year in my backyard and the paint has chips and scratches that i have no idea how they got there.

Sorry for double post, anyone that thinks that can take this off my rims and is in the L.A area, send me a PM.

Since the chrome polish didn't work...did you try clay? If that doesn't work get some 0000 steel wool and do a small section. Use a QD for lubrication. Be sure it's 0000 steel wool anything else will surely damage the chrome. If that doesn't work, take it to a chrome shop and have them re-done.

So, you're telling me i can't do anything about them? They look fixable, they aren't penetrating the chrome or anything. Just looks like micro water or chemical spots all over the rims that can't be taking off by Chrome rim spray or chrome polish.

I would bring the wheels back to wherever you bought them from. Although they can be polished out, they're likely to return. Many wheel manufacturers offer a lifetime warranty on the chrome finish, and getting a new set would fix them up to new condition.

There is a 2 year premium chrome warranty, if you want to go that route.

Can i still return them even though i'm not the original person that bought them? My cousin sold them to me before heading out back to this state.

I removed similar spots from my garage stool this weekend with a metal polish that is not available from AG. The stool had extensive chromed metal that cleaned up nicely (cars, trucks, garages, airplanes, boats, pots & pans, champagne buckets; can I help it?). It's not an exact comparison but the stool chrome looks awesome. I remember this type of corrosion from when I was in high school. A good chrome polish should do the trick with maybe a pretreatment with Triple/Quad O steel wool.

There should be a great AG chrome polish that does this. I used a sealant after the polish to give it a little durability. Check with AG to see about options or PM me for a reco.

I used mother's chrome polish, i don't know how effective it is but i used it with a porter cable and nothing. I was thinking of using sanding but wouldn't that destroy the rims. So, i guess i should give Quad O steel wool a try? What you think?

Definetly try the Quad steel with a polish. Then if that doesn't do it and you have nothing to lose try the 000 steel wool with polish. If that works then after getting it out go back over it with the quad and polish.
