I'm not sure if this needs to go in this forum or should be moved to Detailing 101, so move if needed.

I recently ordered 6 LC 5.5" flat foam pads (3 white, 3 gray/black) and have the 5" backing plate on the way (will be here tomorrow). I'll be using Ultimate Polish and Ultimate Wax. Now I just need the polisher. I'm going to pick up the Harbor Freight DA polisher tomorrow so I can detail this weekend. This will be my first polisher and from the reviews I've read here and on Autogeek.net, it's a pretty good little polisher for the money. I'm just a hobby detailer so this should work for now and I can move up to a PC or Griot's later.

My question is on the speeds. From what I've read, polishing will be done at a higher speed than applying wax. What is a good RPM range for applying polish and applying wax with the HF DA? There was a post I found a while back that listed the RPM speeds for each setting for a number of DA's but I can't find it and don't remember if the HF DA was in the list.

So, what is a good RPM/speed setting for applying the polish? For applying the wax?

I purchased the HF DA and am quite happy with it never let me Down n I use it regularly I would upgrade the backing plate. But the one with it works fine and the pads works well enuf for it til u upgrade to some better pads. And for polish I usually run it around 3.5 or 4 setting but does vary pending on job/ paint ur working on its fast enuf to keep the bp spinning with little pressure and 4 for waxing isn't bad, varies pending on paint may wanna really work in ur lsp with some finess but shud b good rule
