Ok,

My friend showed me a little bit about detailing and let me use his PC, I am hooked now. I have done a little reading and listened to a little about what he recommends, i was wondering what all i should be buying. I have a general idea, and would like opinions on what i have listed.

This is what i was thinking about buying:

- PC 7424 Buffer
- Velcro Backing plate for buffer
- Menzerna Super Intensive Polish
- Menzerna 106 Nano Polish
- S100 Wax

What pads do I need - what brands and colors do you recommend? I am planning on applying the wax and glaze by hand, but will probably get a microfiber bonnet to insure full glaze removal.

what glaze do you recommend?

What is a good wheel cleaner and a good wheel brush? My wheels are polished aluminum, 18" HP Design Evos. They have very tight spaces and rivets that are hard to get to.

Pic of wheels here: http://www.woodandwheels.com/images/Riviera_Koya.jpg

Currently I have a bunch of micro fibers, micro fiber wash mit, meguiars clay and quick detailer, meguiars gold class car wash. what else do I need?

Money is a bit of an issue here as I am a college student, so please keep that in mind when making your recommendations.

Also, the cars this will be used on will vary, but mostly they will be

- 1994 Firebird Formula
- 1997 Audi A8 4.2
- 2008 Acura TL Type-S (this will not see it all that often)

For your PC I highly recommend 5.1/2" pads 2 white and one black (lake country).
your choice of polishes are good ,S100 is also a great wax but I think it looks it's best when applied over a sealant like:
Duragloss # 501 as a cleaner/all in one .
then use DG #105.
let it cure for at least 12 hours, then S100 wax on top of it.
for winter you could use DG#601 bonding agent and DG#105 ,and you'll be set for the whole winter.
I would not bother with the bonnets, waste of money IMHO.

Most have found using 4" pads (3.75 backing plates) work better at corrections when using a PC...

I'd also suggest orange lake country pads. you can go 5.5 inch or as the OP suggested, the 4" pads cut better (I see u have an Audi to work on and that paint is pretty hard).

Get some P21S wheel cleaner gel OR the Eagle One wheel and tire cleaner at wal-mart is pretty darn good stuff. get a soft brush for wheels and long handled one for wheel wells. You're off to a good start.

what do you guys think about Klasse Sealant Glaze (gray bottle)?

would you recommend doing 501/105 over the KSG?

should i apply these by hand, or use the PC?

what pad would you use with these?

:iagree::whs: plus I'd skip the Klasse SG. DG#105 will do the same on a college budget. Yes Dg#501 (as a paint cleaner) with a PC and then #105 (as a sealant) by hand.

Thumper, first off, welcome to the forum. :welcome:

Secondly, I know the PC is more in your price range, but if you find yourself with a little extra cash, I would highly recommend the flex.

will the menzerna finishing glaze eliminate the DG step?

I was looking at that kit, but it uses 6.5" pads and includes the Menzerna glaze which I wasn't sure about.

also, when you look at it, the 106 Nano and the Glaze both recommend using the gray CCS pad, but that kit doesn't come with any gray pads, whats up with that?

If i were to go with the DG, what pad should i use for the 501?

Also, I am sure I would love the flex, but there is just no way that can fit into the budget, I am stretching to get this as it is lol.

But, that kit is $300 and then I would get the S100 Wax for another $16.

total - $316

or

PC7424 - $130
HD Backing Plate - $18
S100 Wax - $16
Menzerna SIP - $40
Menzerna Nano 106 - $50
5.5" CCS Orange - $6
2x 5.5" CCS Gray - $12
Duragloss 501 - $12
Duragloss 105 - $10

Total - $294

I like the advantage of the 5.5" pads, and i would like to hear about hte menzerna glaze. Also, the pads that come in the kit, i am still wondering about that (as not being what is recommended for use with the products individually). Is there any way that I could switch out the pads in the kit to 5.5" pads?.

also, SIP/106FF is not going to be to much for my Formula's clear coat, is it?

blue pad is a finishing pad just like grey pad. You'll find the same benefits.

5.5 inch pads (orange are my fav) are perfect for the PC...the 6.5inch pads are ok if your not cutting or trying to correct the paint.

Apply AIO polishes like Klasse and Duragloss 501 by hand. Dont bother using a PC.
Same with Sealants and waxes, just apply by hand
Dont bother using Microfiber bonnets either, just buy buffing/polishing microfibers.

If i were you, id get Menzerna SIP/106, DG 501 + 105 (good and cheap)
with 5.5inch cutting pads and 6.5 inch finishing pads
