Have a Ravaglioli KP302 two-post shop car lift (1985 model) in a shop that needs to go, so I put an ad up online to sell it. This lift has not been used in a while, but when the first buyer came to see it we turned the power on and lifted it up the highest it can go. Now it will not go back down.
I had someone who has used this lift before take a look at it, and after messing with some switches, sensors and wires for a while, he couldn't get it to go down. The electric motor works and the lift makes a slight movement every few times we would try to get access to one of the sensors.
He said the issue is most likely a simple electrical problem, and since the lift is all the way up it's probably in a safety mode or hitting a sensor that won't allow it to go down. There's not really anything else he can do, but I need to fix it so I can sell it. The buyers lost interest when they saw that it's stuck.
Can anyone on this site tell me anything about these older car lifts or point me in the right direction? I don't have a manual for it and parts are probably impossible to find for this 1985 model.

Lifts are not very complex. Virtually anyone in the lift install/service business should be able to resolve the problem.

Consider making a post on garagejournal.com Like this forum, it is active and have many very knowlegable and helpful members.

and that's that, good info for him.

Did you raise it off of the safety locks then lower it?

This sounds more like a hydraulic release valve(connected to the release lever or button, whichever it uses) is not opening. With it not opening hydraulic pressure cannot bleed out of the lift cylinders, thus the lift will not lower. This is my best guess if you have disengaged any locking mechanisms when trying to lower the lift.

I second the suggestion about making a duplicate thread on garagejournal. Chances are someone over there might be familiar with this make or model and can give you more detailed information.
