My dad has a black Volvo XC90 that is about 4 years old. It has never been garaged, and used to sit under an oak tree, and he lives in Florida. I saw it the other day, and wanted to help him out and fully detail it for him. Well, I am trying to figure out which route to go. It has swirls, oxidation and the usual. I was going to do a full detail job.

So, here is my shopping cart from here:

Obviously I am not going to get it all, but I am trying to figure out how to piggyback everything. I am a newb and I understand certain products work better with others. This is what I have come up with. I am still debating doing the polisher, as I have never done it before, and wouldn't want to ruin his suv (although I am pretty handy, and have watched the videos on here), so thats why the Meguiars hand kit is there.

Is the 360 good enough were I dont need the Poorboys and Polish, or do I go with another independent swirl remover? I already have some very good Meguiars wheel and tire cleaner as well as Lexol and DP interior cleaners.

Any info would be great. Thanks!!

Meguiars smooth surface clay should be taken off. just my opinion. there are better clay sets out there that are cheaper and more effective.

The first thing I keyed in on was that the Volvo has sat outside for the last 4 years and apparently not been regularly maintained.

What I would ask myself is after I restore the finish on this car is the Volvo going to be subjected to the same scenario? That is will it be stored outside and pretty much see the same type of maintenance?

IF so, then do a good job but keep it simple, wash, clay, machine apply the XMT 360 and call it good. It will look a thousand times better and you'll still be the hero.

:)

Thanks for the replies and info. Im going to look into another clay. I like Meguiar's so probably go with their brand of better stuff.

He is going to start garaging it, but I am not sure how much "care" will actually be done for it in the future. He is a very busy guy, so its not always his priority. I think the 360 sounds like the best overall solution. Thanks again!

Since durability is probably an issue, pick up a sample of Collinite 845 and apply that after the 360. Or just pay the $15 and spring for the 16 oz. bottle. You can get the 4 oz. bottle either as one of your free samples or you can buy it for $6. Just a suggestion. :xyxthumbs:

I agree with Mike. Same story with my daughters car. Not maintained regularly & wants me to detail it. It's dark blue, she's had it 3 yrs. I wont go crazy Cuz as Mikes says, anything I do will make it look a thousand times better, & I am also going to use XMT 360 recently purchased for this reason.
