What to use for weatherstripping

What do you guys use for conditioning your weatherstripping (on doors/hatches)? I never did anything on my previous car and it eventually led to a leaky seal. Have a new car now and figured I'd keep it well maintained this time around.

I have PERL, Pinnacle Vinyl/Rubber Protectant, Meguiars M40, and regular aerosol silicone spray... Not sure which is best for the application.

Product made exactly and only for this use. Clean them with APC first. This product isn't greasy, I believe it's non silicone. I think tire dressings may dry seals over time. Also the Gummi is super cheap, so why not add it to your next order. It has a sponge applicator built into the top to dispense the product. It's from Germany, so it has to be great... Right? I like it a lot.

+1 on the Gummipflege and cleaning with a cleaner first or the sponge on the end will get dirty if don't clean the surface before hand, it also is for the sunroof seal and trunk.

Out of what you have there PERL should work very well for that task.


I have used the Gummi (the first I bought for seals when I joined the forums).... It is fine but.... I consider it HIGHLY overrated and expensive compared to the product below...

Duragloss Marine & R/V Protectant #531 provided UV sunscreen protection for gelcoat fiberglass boat and RV finishes.

Weather seals:

Protecting the weather seals of a ragtop vehicle is an important task. The most pressing reason is the sound dampening factor, which tops the list of obvious reasons you should care for your weather seals. When choosing a product for this task I haven’t found a product better than Duragloss 531. A long time ago Jim sent me a sample of this product in an excellent bottle that aids in application. DG 531 has become my go to product on the seals around my top.

Yes, considering the size it is expensive, basically a sample size.
Optimum protectant 128oz sells for $35... How much would 128oz of the Einszett cost?

It's your money, do whatever you want with it.
 
-More than likely the weatherstripping you are talking about are made from EPDM.

My vehicles' owners manuals call for these EPDM-care-products:
-dielectric grease
-Krytox GPL-105, or equivalent

What does your owner's manual say to use?

BTW...I've also found that a water/glycerine solution (@3:1) works just as well on EPDM...Never to be used on rubber (such as tires), though.
(Glycerine's available at pharmacies)
